Do’s and Don’ts of Black FridayBy November 17, 2012 - 2:47pm While the majority of students waste class time dreaming of pumpkin pie and football games, I personally have early morning sales and the mall on my mind. Yes, I love Thanksgiving and all the delectable food associated with it--it would be hard not to. But honestly the main source of my excitement over the impending break is Black Friday. The great crowds of people, the piles of discounted clothes, the excitement in the air; it rivals Christmas as my favorite day of the year. However, without the right tips you may come home with either empty shopping bags or, alternatively, an empty wallet. Read the lists of do’s and don’ts and prepare to conquer the malls next week. The Cure-All Music PlaylistBy October 27, 2012 - 4:16pm Yesterday afternoon, my friend and I were taking a walk around Audubon and venting about all the frustrations and worries in our lives; I figured that everyone is entitled to a grumpy day, right? However, there is one remedy that can help cure this so-called mid-semester slump: music! For this reason, I've compiled a list of 10 energy-packed songs to share with you fellow Tulanians and to serve as a reminder to stay strong during these turbulent times. Enjoy (and keep on smiling), my beautiful collegiates! Click on the pink titles to be directed to YouTube: READ MORE |

Sleepover Talk: The Five ElementsBy October 25, 2012 - 8:00am When we are at a sleepover, we never know what we may do or what we might talk about. However, despite this unpredictable nature, I have noticed that sleepovers are just as much structured as they are impulsive. In this week’s article, I discuss five elements that I believe are intrinsic to all adolescent sleepovers. 1. Mother Nature READ MORE |

A Brit in America: The Language Barrier (aka Crisps vs. Chips vs. Fries)By October 24, 2012 - 2:54pm “Oh my God – are you really British? I love your accent!” My English friends and I hear this almost everywhere we go – paying for our shopping in Walmart, scrounging cigarettes in bars, even from the occasional Professor. It still hasn’t got old (ask me again in seven months). Usually people request the standard, “Can I have a cup of tea?” or “I fancy a packet of crisps.” But no matter who I’m talking to, people always seem intrigued by ‘Britishisms’ (or, as we like to call it, proper English). So here are a few of the most obvious places where English and American shed their similarities and slip apart: READ MORE |

From Tulane, LA to New Orleans, LABy October 22, 2012 - 12:00am I didn’t know what to expect when my roommates (shout-out to A and C) and I first started the search for off-campus housing. I figured I’d be in a building similar to a dorm, maybe with fewer rooms, but still the same “college-y” vibe. After multiple searches on Craigslist and posts in Tulane Facebook groups, we finally found an apartment. My roommates and I went to see the place and immediately loved it. Later we got an email from our landlord saying we got the apartment; we were thrilled. READ MORE |
