New Music Based on the Pop Music You Know and Love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Hey friends it’s me Carrie DiGregorio. I love around 2-3 things in this cold cold world and those things are poop/fart humor, shopping at Costco with the one the only @rinnney, and finding new music. I spend most of my time at my internship scouring Spotify for new music instead of actually doing my job like I’m supposed to so I figured now was the time to maybe put my talent to good use. After a lot of research I put together this list so you can find new music you might like based on pop music you know you already like. SO here we go. Plz don’t roast me in the comments I’M JUST A GIRL TRYING HER BEST OK??????

If you like The Weekend you might like JAHKOY

The Weekend has those SEX JAMZ AMIRIGHT?? I would know because I have A LOT of sex. He also has that fun R&B plus electro kind of vibe that can really get the crowd goin! I am hip! I know the lingo! Anywayz JAHKOY has some good sexy jamz but also some upbeat pregame hits. So I recommend checking out “Still in Love” for that high energy electro sound and “Odd Future” for that darker ~sexier~ vibe.

Still in Love

Odd Future

If you like Ariana Grande you might like Emily Vaughn.

Ariana Grande, in my humble opinion, is the most successful artist to come from a program for tweens (Victorious??? Remember????). And before you say WELL I THINK IT’S MILEY CYRUS, you may have your argument but this is mine so SHUT UP AND LISTEN THANK YOU. Ariana has had like zero scandals and basically is just making music and going about her business. Personally I really enjoy her music I think it’s both ~fun~ and ~flirty~. Emily Vaughn has a great voice and has some fun casual songs as well as some of that sexed up kinda thing that Ariana does as well. What I do enjoy about Emily more than Ariana is that she isn’t playing off that sexy school girl thing. TBH that image always makes me high key uncomfortable.

Think Twice

Better Off

If you like anything DJ Snake has made you might like Möwe.

If you were confused about who DJ Snake even is he that song “Let Me Love You” featuring Justin Bieber and also tbt to “Turn Down for What.” The hard-core sound of “Turn Down for What” seems to be in the past for DJ Snake. He’s opting for a more upbeat electronic sound these days which is why I think Möwe pairs well. This duo from Vienna, Austria just released their first album AND IT IS REALLY REALLY GOOD. Also anytime there is a woman producing music I get really really hype so plz check them out I feel like they deserve it.

Lovers Friends

Your Skin

If you like Drake you might like Vic Mensa.

I don’t know a lot about Drake if I’m being honest. Let me rephrase I don’t know a lot about Drake’s music. I know a lot about his run on Degrassi (Jimmy was always my fave) and I know a lot about every sketch he’s ever done on SNL but I really had to dig deep to understand his music. And by that I just looked at his most played on Spotify.

Also I REALIZED I DO KNOW ONE SONG WHERE DRAKE IS FEATURED AND THAT IS “Why You Always Hatin?” a phenomenal song by YG. Highly recommend.

But anyway what I learned was that he’s got a lot of this more pop-ish stuff where he’s singing more than rapping and then other stuff where he’s ya know actually rapping. So I thought Vic Mensa was a good mix of songs where he’s singing and other songs where he’s rapping. Also his lyrics are incredible and complicated and that’s why I like them. So enjoy plz.

Down on My Luck

There’s A lot Going On

If you like crying to any song by Shawn Mendes you will love crying to Ánders.

I don’t cry anymore mostly because I feel like I don’t have a lot of emotional depth anymore. ~Just call me a tortured artist~  I haven’t really cried since March? Is that worrisome? I’m not sure? I’m just gonna say its fine until it poses a real problem, but if I were to cry I would cry to Ánders. Shawn Mendes has some of those songs that just really tug at the heartstrings and Ánders seems to only write songs that would reduce me to a puddle on the floor if I were to ya know have emotions. So here ya go. Grab the tissues.

You Didn’t Need My Love

I Wish (You Were Mine)

If you like The Chainsmokers you might like Bobby Green.

Last but not least who doesn’t love The Chainsmokers? Actually probably a lot of people but for the sake of this article that fact is irrelevant. Anyway they have truly been a force in bringing EDM back to the mainstream. Bobby Green is also just a lot of fun to listen to. His song “Lights” literally BRIGHTENS my day (get it it’s a pun) everytime I listen to it. So check him out for some upbeat fun tünes.

Lights

Floods

I’ve also included the link to all of these tracks as a Spotify Playlist just to make it convenient for everyone who wants these songs in one place. HAPPY LISTENING YOU NASTY WOMEN!
