After three long weeks of tirelessly flipping through the “new release” section on OnDemand, I’m back in New Orleans with renewed excitement (and not just about the beignets). I’m not sure if it’s the surplus of sleep I had over break or the revival of my dangerously-close-to-extinction bank account that has caused me to I feel like I’m ready to take on the world, but I’m pretty stoked about it either way. I have been listening to a lot of Sheryl Crow lately… maybe there’s a correlation? Truth be told, I haven’t necessarily had any major self-improvements (no weight lost, no boyfriends, no increase in motivation) but I’m feeling as bubbly and free as a newly madeover teen in an early 2000s romcom. Regardless, things are looking up, and I’m excited to share with you guys the basics of my semester so far!

First of all, I moved into a new pad this semester, and my new roommates are totally cool. The house is dope and as far as I can tell, the chance of getting roaches is significantly less than in my previous house (score!). I have unpacked absolutely nothing in my new room yet, leading me to believe that the label of “the messy roommate” will be quickly bestowed upon me if I don’t take action. I did just start Shameless though, so the odds are slim that I’ll put my clothes away anytime soon. Regardless, the new house has great vibes and a highly efficient washing machine, so that’s all a girl can really ask for. Also does anyone really care if my room is practically post-apocalyptic? Please don’t answer that.

Anyway, I’m pretty excited about all the cool new people I’ve met this semester. I’m feeling pretty confident that this semester will be full of adventures. Additionally, I feel like 2017 is the year of the badass woman, and I couldn’t be happier. I went to the Women’s March the other day, and it was by far the most inspiring event I’ve ever witnessed. More than 7,000 women, men, and gender non-binary folk marched side-by-side to call attention to the human rights causes that are so often overlooked. The experience was made even better by the company of my rugby teammates. It was a privilege to share that experience with great friends and I’m excited for many more adventures like that one this semester.

I am simply excited to be back at Tulane. I love New Orleans, and I look forward to getting to know this fantastic city better this semester. I’ve been finding all kinds of great little restaurants and hangouts (shout out to Luca, check it out y’all) and I think I’ll be soaking up the New Orlean’s culture in no time. So yeah, that’s basically what I’ve been up to. It might not be glamorous but it’s sure as heck fun. I’m havin a grand old time, and I hope you all are too. Roll wave!
