There’s nothing better than finding the perfect song to reflect exactly how you’re feeling. In transitioning from the confines of public high school in Northern New Jersey to the insanity that is college life down here in the Big Easy, I found (and still find myself) feeling an ARRAY of emotions throughout my days on Tulane’s campus…especially in those infamous first two weeks. Luckily, an album exists in this world that caters to your every emotion- excited, heart-broken, contempt, anger, and the millions in between. That album, is Hozier.

1. In Love- Work Song

Love is SO great! No wonder there are a trillion songs out there about it.  You know what else is great? This song. And music video. Go watch it right now. If you’re not convinced, let me give you a taste of the musical poetry: “No grave can hold my body down, I’ll crawl home to her.” ‘Nuff said.

2. Angry AF- Foreigner’s God

Bombed an exam you worked your butt off studying for? Fight with your roommate? Just ANGRY? Let everyone on your floor hear you scream your face off along with Hozier to this awesome song. I swear you’ll feel better after.

3. Runnin’ at Reilly- Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene

Who doesn’t love a good, strong beat? Hozier’s perfectly grungy voice effortlessly complements the intense electric guitar and serious drumming; this song transforms any average 20-minute-elliptical-runner to Olympian 100-meter sprinter in seconds. Need to finish your workout on a high note but you’re slowly dying on that last mile? Put this on and you’ll fly through it with a smile on your face, #swear.

4. Homesick on A Rainy Day- In a Week (ft. Karen Cowley)

At some point in the semester, everyone will get a little homesick. It’s totally normal to long for the comforts of your own house, your own bed, and the people that know you the most: your family! If you find yourself yearning for your mom’s hug or your dad’s laugh, I have a solution for you. Make a cup of tea, wrap yourself in a cozy blanket, and listen. Sometimes you just need to chill out, take a break from the day-to-day craziness, and miss home a little bit. This tune is fantastic background music for that.

What boggles my mind is that someone with this kind of talent exists in the world. Not only does he have a voice that resembles freakin’ Zeus, but he writes and composes all of his songs, something super impressive in the industry today. And don’t get me started on his near-perfect man bun…*swoons.* Hopefully he makes an appearance in NOLA soon. If he does, you can bet your PSL that I’ll be in the crowd, front and center.
