Best Sandwich Places Near Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

As I was eating yet another turkey-swiss-tomato-spinach-pesto mayo sandwich at Bruff, I realized just how bad I wished I could be eating a delicious sandwich somewhere else. Fortunately, we live in a city filled with great food, and quite a few sandwich places near by. Brunch has become my new favorite meal, and lately when I wake up at 2 P.M. on the weekends I find myself craving a yummy sandwich rather than pancakes or waffles. Why? Sandwiches have everything you want in a meal and more. They’re filling, Insta-worthy, and always come with a side. Here are a few of my favorite inexpensive sandwiches that are definitely better than Bruff:

1)   Satsuma

  • Why: Walking distance and also has great juices!
  • What to get: Anything. Most popular sandwiches are the turkey pesto and BLT. The turkey pesto is always good (comes with roasted red peppers, cheese, and spinach) and the BLT comes with an amazing aioli. Both are served with a side salad.

2)   Wayfare

  • Why: Walking distance (kind of far walk) but everything at Wayfare is absolutely delicious. Make sure to get the mac n cheese and the sweet potatoes with marshmallows.
  • What to get: The BLT with fried green tomatoes. Classic with a NOLA twist. Comes with chips.

3)   St. James

  • Why: Who doesn’t love cheese?
  • What to get: Anything and everything. My favorite is the Hooks Cheddar (anything with avocado and basil is perfect in my book) and comes with a side salad.

4)   Maple St. Patisserie

  • Why: Walking distance and has great pastries as well.
  • What to get: Prosciutto pesto and roasted pepper sandwich. Absolutely to die for and comes with amazing crackers.

5)   Milk Bar

  • Why: Walking distance and has great shakes as well (coffee one is a must try!) Get a good insta separating the sandwich! ~artsy~
  • What to get: Clooney’s Choice (marinated chicken, avocado, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, lemon mayo, and more).
