Carmichael Dining Hall (Expectations vs Reality)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

So by now, you should know that there is a common consensus (especially according to Yik Yak) that Dewick is the better of the two dining halls. Whether it’s because the food is actually better or because of the social factors is still to be debated. Nonetheless, every once in a while I do trek uphill to see what Carm has to offer. Here are some of my experiences:

Expectation: You know that on any given day at Dewick, the line will be reaching the door. So, you’ve decided to walk to Carm to enjoy the silence and maybe get some studying in.

Reality: It’s stir fry night. You are stuck in a seemingly eternal line and ultimately spend three hours at the dining hall-not studying.

Expectation: You are assembling your perfect panini. You are so excited to heat up your masterpiece.

Reality: The panini machine doesn’t turn on. Or, it does turn on and the top of your panini sticks to the top and you are essentially left with a piece of toast-time to try again.

Expectation: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are build your own burrito days. Yay! It’s time to pretend you’re at chipotle.

Reality: The guacamole is partially frozen. The beans are cold. The tortilla is whole wheat. You bite into your burrito and are left wishing you were at chipotle.

Expectation:  Carm is supposed to be the dining hall where you don’t have to worry about finding a table to sit at? Right?

Reality: Every single table is taken by people eating alone.
