It’s extremely hard to like working out.  When I was in high school, I participated in sports, so I convinced myself for a while that I didn’t need to work out on my own.  This is completely not true.  At the time, I thought working out was just what I saw at the gym: lifting weights, treadmills (which are totally not for me, I’m more of an elliptical girl), and then going off to the side to do ab work.  While this is a fantastic form of exercise, there’s so much more out there to keep your body in shape and active.

In my sophomore year, I discovered barre and never looked back.  For some people, yoga is their thing, or cycling, or CrossFit – but for me, it was always barre.

Barre is a workout regime focused on lifting, toning, and burning – basically getting your muscles to the point of shaking (yikes.)  When I’m home, I do the Bar Method, and at school, I drive into West Hartford and attend Pure Barre.  Both are great options, slightly different techniques, but overall the same goal: a dancer’s body.  Dancers have very long and lean muscles. There’s a gracefulness to a dancer’s muscles that is hard to achieve, but barre does it.

Barre “lifts seats” and “elongates muscles.”  There are some barre classes I don’t even really break a sweat, but it works.

Lucky for you Trin ladies, we have barre classes right here on campus!  They’re in FN100 on Mondays and Wednesdays during common hour.  Even after one class your muscles will be crying in pain, but they’ll also be thanking you.  Try a class and get ready to shake!
