Every year as the month of November rolls around, we see males around us on campus stop shaving.

Why?

Well, when this tradition started, it was called “Movember” (as in moustache) to raise awareness for prostate cancer (http://us.movember.com/). The object of the “competition” is to have the longest mustache grown from November 1-December 1 and then resume your normal shaving routine. Just as people wear pink in October for breast cancer, this tradition began to bring prostate cancer to the front of people’s minds for at least a little while.

While there are many people who do participate for cancer awareness, “No Shave November” has become a cultural phenomenon. All across ages, schools and the country, young men are not shaving during the month of November. Some do it for team bonding, some do it as a competition, and some really do want to raise awareness.

So, there we have it: The REAL reason behind No Shave November. What do you guys think about it? Does it gross you out more or less now that you know why?

If it still skeeves you out, not to worry, only 12 more days!
