What is your organization called?Our organization is called the Towson University Love Your Melon Campus Crew.What is it about?Love Your Melon is a charitable organization that funds childhood cancer research initiatives, provides immediate support for children and their families and donates a hat to every child battling cancer in America. Love Your Melon has recently partnered with the Pinky Swear Foundation to provide immediate support for children battling cancer and with CureSearch for Children’s Cancer to fund research initiatives on track to beat childhood cancer completely.Love Your Melon, was originally started by college students and to date has reserved more than 45,000 hats to donate to children battling cancer in the United States through its original buy one, give one program. This is equal to the number of children currently undergoing cancer treatment in the country! The hats are donated in person at hospitals nationally by Love Your Melon college ambassadors dressed as superheroes.What got you interested in this cause?One of my sorority sisters, Holly Prothero, messaged us about the cause and informed us that she wanted to begin an ambassador crew here on campus! I looked it up and thought it would be a great idea so I joined the ambassador crew.

Why do you think Towson students would benefit from getting involved in this cause?We have many organizations here on campus catering to everyone’s interests. LYM is a great way get involved with a large non-profit organization. Not only are you trying to branch out to the community to inform them about what our organization does, but knowing that each hat purchased gets given to a child battling cancer as well as 50% of the proceeds going towards research is a great way to give back. The hats are also cute.Who is your “leader”? Tell us a bit about your staff.The leader of Towson’s Crew is Holly Prothero, and keeps in contact with headquarters located in Minnesota. She first found out about Love Your Melon through Twitter and decided to buy a hat. Once she bought one, she noticed Love Your Melon had campus crews nation wide and decided to inquire about starting one at Towson University, and a few weeks later, Towson’s crew was up and running! We also have two members that are in charge of our crews instagram, Rachel Melton and Annie Plumley, and two in charge of running our twitter page, Melissa Echalar (myself) and Emily Dugan.When do you guys meet/where?The Towson crew typically meets about once a week to discuss ideas for promoting Love Your Melon.Any upcoming events?Soon, we will be tabling outside in Freedom Square, giving away stickers and buttons to those who swing by! In addition to tabling, we will have a table set up at Towson’s Relay for Life on April 18th in Burdick Hall.

Where can we buy your product (if you’re selling one)?If someone chooses to buy a hat and support Towson’s camps crew, they simply have to select ‘Towson University’ once they have items in their shopping cart to buy when you’re on www.loveyourmelon.com.
