Ask Andi: What Are Some Cute New Hair Styles For Spring?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

Hey, Andi!

I feel like I’m in a hairstyle rut. I wanna get a cute cut, but I seriously know nothing about hair. Care to help a sister out?

Sincerely,

Hair Today-Gone Tomorrow

Dear Hair Today-Gone Tomorrow,

Most guides to hair styling will tell you to get a cut that fits with the shape of your face and I agree with this!  While the face-shape guides floating around in salons and fashion magazines provide good options, only you can decide a style that looks good on you and you feel good in!

Here are a few trendy trims that are hot right now:

If you like keeping longer hair but want to add in more style, layers are the perfect option.  If you think your hair is too full bodied, I suggest an angled layer to thin it out.  If you want to add volume, start your layers mid-face for a fuller look.  If your hair is thin, only get layers toward to tip of your hair.  For a more edge long hair style you can get tapered layers, but tell your stylist to blend them so you don’t get a choppy look!

Reese Witherspoon’s angled layers give her hair a sleek look.

The Bob is a haircut that will always be in style because there are so many options with!  If you have thicker hair, try an angled bob.  It is cut shorter in the back than in the front which gives a modern look to your hair while thinning it out.  The difference in length can be very subtle for a softer look; or if you feel edgy, make it an inch or two longer in the front.  If you feel even more edgy, try a razored bob cut.  It’s a cut that is fuller towards the top and thins out toward your ends. If you are looking for a more mature and conservative style, a classic shaping bob can never go wrong.  To make it conservative yet styled you can ask your stylist to texture the ends.

Kelly Pickler wears a classic bob with some textured cuts towards her ends.

If you haven’t noticed, bangs are back and are more stylish than ever.  The hottest trend in bangs has been the straight cut bangs.  They are stylish and modern but still simple and sleek.  Curtained bangs are another recent trend.  These bangs are long and loose that part in the middle (think a doubled-side swept bang) and look great if you wear your hair pulled back often.  And, of course, if you still feel edgy- may I suggest the choppy bangs?  Get an uneven trim across your forehead and leave longer bangs as you near the side of your face.  This will blend the bangs in with your hair and it will look cute if you leave the longer side pieces out when wearing your hair pulled back.

My best advice to you is that you should get creative and have fun!  The thing about hair is that it grows back.  Whether you want a little trim, or you decide to cut it all off and mirror one of Rihanna’s modern cuts- you’ll look absolutely gorgeous!  If you end up not liking the cut, it will grow back soon enough.  So change it up and try one of these trendy trims- or better yet, start your own trend!

xoxo Andi
