Valentine’s Day in the ATX

Flower bouquets, candy hearts and teddy bears line the shelves of stores across the country; you can’t escape it.  Valentine’s Day is here.  No plans yet? You’re in luck. Here at HerCampus, we did a little research to find out all the fun, quirky V-day activities Austin has to offer.
 
 
Absolutely Charming: Valentine’s Day Workshop at Bead-it
12 p.m.-1 p.m.
 
Head over to Bead-It from next Tuesday with the girls for a special Valentine’s workshop where you can design your very own charm bracelet with customized charms while enjoying complimentary chocolate and champagne.
 
The Princess Bride Quote-Along at Alamo Drafthouse
7 p.m.
 
For a different spin on the tried and true movie date, Alamo Drafthouse’s three locations are each holding a special Valentine’s event where you and your beau are invited to feast while watching the always-entertaining Princess Bride.
 
Painting With a Twist – “Falling in Love”
7 p.m.- 9 p.m.
 
Join the folks at Painting With a Twist to paint your very own masterpiece with step-by-step guidance from a local artist.
 
Dinner Detective Austin- “Valentine’s Day”
7:15 p.m.
 
If you’re alright with spending a little dough this Valentine’s Day, check out the country’s largest murder mystery dinner show at the Marriot Hotel.  Enjoy a delicious four-course meal, but beware of your fellow guests – they just might be a killer!
 
Whether you’re planning to spend next Tuesday hanging with the girls or with that special someone, it’s time to start making plans.  And let’s face it: the whole dinner-and-a-movie getup has been done time and time again, so I challenge you to take advantage of all that Austin has to offer and spice things up a little this year!

Bernice Chuang is a fourth year double majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Communication Studies-Human Relations and doing the Business Foundations Program (aka business minor) at the University of Texas at Austin. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Bernice is a fan of good country music and yummy barbeque! At UT, Bernice is a resident assistant at an all-female residence hall and currently serves as a senator representing her residence hall, Kinsolving, on the Resident Assistant Association. She also leads a small group bible study for Asian American Campus Ministries and sings with her campus ministries’ a cappella group. When she’s not juggling her various roles and commitments, Bernice enjoys exploring downtown Austin, shopping with her fellow RA staff members, reading books on faith and spirituality, learning how to cook and tackling various dessert recipes, and spending quality time with friends.
