Meet Our New Campus Correspondents

In addition to HCTX’s wonderful new staff writers, HCTX welcomes Chandler Farnworth and Eleni Theodoropoulos as the new Campus Correspondents. They are so excited to lead HCTX for the upcoming year! In an interview they shared their most memorable moments at UT and what they love most about Her Campus Texas.

Name:

                                                                                                                         Chandler Farnworth

Eleni Theodoropoulos or Eleni Theo for short (these greek names are way too long).

Major:

C: Corporate Communications Pre-Law

E: Humanities Honors and Philosophy double major also pursuing a Certificate in Creative Writing

Hometown:

C: Pueblo, Colorado

E: Athens, Greece, not Texas––it’s so far it almost doesn’t seem true.

Why did you become involved with HCTX?

C: I relied on HCTX’s Complete College Guide to help make my transition to UT so much easier. Since my first day at UT I knew that I would contributing to a publication that has so much to offer college students who are new to campus.

E: My love of writing led me to search for any writing opportunities on campus and when I found out about HCTX, I reached out to Chandler and she welcomed me with open arms and I immediately knew I’d love working with her.

What is your favorite memory at UT?

C: Living in my sorority house for the past year with my best friends has been so much fun! But, I have to say my favorite memory might be watching the Longhorns beat OU last year in football after eating brisket covered nachos at the Texas state fair!

E: Oh there are so many. Getting hired as a yoga instructor. Becoming friends with professors and TAs, whose intelligence has both blown my mind and changed my life. Entering the Humanities program and having the freedom to design my own major. Meeting the people I’ll hold onto for the rest of my life. Getting accepted into the Creative Writing Certificate, and declaring to the world that I am a writer. But perhaps the best of all is, the feeling I get at UT, of continually wanting to reach higher. UT inspires me to become a better version of myself and provides me with the tools to do so.

What is one thing that you wish you knew freshman year?

C: I wish I had known that I would learn the most outside of the classroom. I spent so many hours freshman year studying, and while that was obviously important I now know that some of the most important college lessons you can’t find a textbook.

E: I wish I’d known that the best was to come. The first two semesters are just a warm-up for all the great things you will accomplish and all the wonderful people you’ll meet. As a freshman, you’re still lost, trying to find where to put your attention. As you mature you find outlets for your enthusiasms and passions. At the same time you find a crowd with which you belong. That’s when college life is at its best: you find a purpose to your student career, which still eludes you as a freshman.

What is the best part of being a Campus Correspondent?

C: Being a Campus Correspondent led me to share my creative voice through journalism and work closely with women making a difference on the campus, including my wonderful co-editor!

E: I get to work with all these amazing people, who each have interests and passions of their own. I get to help them find their voices and create a community that’s diverse yet accepting and kind. I’m humbled that these girls wanted to be part of our team, and I am looking forward to working with them closely this semester so that we can better both their college experience, and that of our readers. I am excited to learn from them as we go on.
