The Life Science Library is definitely a hidden gem here at UT. Located in The Tower on the second floor, it’s one of the most peaceful and beautiful libraries on campus and has a completely different feel from the modern-themed PCL. With the detailed architecture and classic chandeliers, it makes you feel like you went back in time to when UT was first established as a university. Having always been an admirer of old movies, architecture, and past time periods in general, I found the discovery of this library really exciting. It’s exactly the kind of ideal place I imagined myself to be studying in when I was in high school and anticipating going to college. The beauty of this library always puts me in a great mood, and the quiet gives me the perfect opportunity to focus and get my work done. The recently furnished reading room has cozy couches and chairs and a beautiful view of the campus. The motivational inscriptions on the walls are the perfect touch to the classic feel of this library. Not only is it an amazing place to focus and study, but it also puts on really awesome programs for those who have an interest in science. Every so often, the Life Science Library will host Science Study Breaks, where experts talk about different current topics that are attracting attention. One week, Dr. Misha Matz of the School of Biological Sciences analyzed biological fact and fiction in the world of film, specifically the summer blockbuster Avatar. From Mondays to Thursdays it is open from 8 am-12 am, on Fridays 8 am-6 pm, on Saturdays 1 pm-5pm, and on Sundays 1 pm-12 am. This library also has private study rooms with white boards, which are perfect for studying in groups. So if you are bored from studying at the PCL or just want a glimpse of the architecturally beautiful buildings here at UT, keep in mind to visit this library!
