If I Were A Boy: Guy Fashion With A Feminine Twist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Do you ever find yourself wandering to the Men’s section of Forever 21 because their cardigans cast a spell on you like none in the rest of the store? Do you “accidentally” steal your boyfriend’s/brother’s/guy friend’s band t-shirt when he is not looking because, let’s admit it, it looks awesome with your leather leggings! Or maybe you are a girl who likes to borrow from Men’s fashion on the daily (in which case, where have you been all my style-forming years?! I needed you!) Regardless of your experience level with wearing more masculine-intended clothing is, here are four styles that the guys in your lives are wearing that you should give a shot at sporting yourself!

Button-up Shirts

So I know that all of these styles are not just for the boys club, women have been looking great it button-up shirts for decades. But don’t be afraid to go for the looser, boxier fit of a men’s style button-up every once in a while. Not only are they roomier, and pretty comfy if you get the right material, they look great paired with dark skinny jeans to offset the structure of the tapered leg.

Oxford Shoes

If a guy has on a nice pair of Oxford’s with his already cute outfit, I admit, I might stare in admiration. But Oxford’s can be incorporated into anyone’s wardrobe. You can stay with the menswear approach and pair them with jeans and a blazer, or you can wear them with tights and a dress and look chic without having to worry about pesky heels.

Beanies

I know we all love a good beanie. But sometimes I get frustrated that a lot of the ones in the women’s section have fluffy poms at the end or do not have the effortless slouchy look that that one guy from Communications class is always wearing. Not that I don’t love the fantastic feminine beanie type (I may or may not have one exactly like the one I just described, fluffy pink pom included), but sometimes it’s nice to rock the more simplistic, slouchy look that men’s beanies tend to have.

Relaxed Fit Jeans

Jeans are kind of like the bread and butter of classic style. And guys and girls alike have fantastic denim made for them. A fun way to get out of the skinny jeans rut every once and a while is to wear a pair of relaxed fit jeans that look like you could have snagged them from the guy’s department. The looser fit is great for if you are busy running around between class and your internship and that second (okay, third!) trip to the SAC Starbuck’s, and rolling them into a small cuff at the bottom is a great way to frame your awesome Oxford’s am I right?

Whether you are looking to try something new, or you could show your guy friends a thing or two about menswear, it’s great to play with different styles and to take cues from the different sections of the store than you are maybe used to.

I am Corisa but a lot of my friends call me Cori! I feel like the real life Hannah Horvath from Girls.
