Going the Distance

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

About four years ago, I told myself I would never be in a long-distance relationship because I would probably kill the relationship faster than the distance (haha, not funny.) Yeah, I lied. I never thought I’d be in a relationship my sophomore year of college, much less having it be long-distance. At first it was okay because I drove home pretty often, and my schedule was flexible enough that I could see him about every 10 days or so. It’s nice having all my classes packed into two days a week, as stressful as that can be, but the four-day-weekends are so worth it for Thursdays that run from 8 am to 8 pm, especially if it means I can see my boyfriend Friday morning. But in the past few weeks, I’ve just been unable to go back and see him because of prior engagements on the weekends here in Austin, or just simply needing to spend the time studying instead of driving the 220 miles between us. It’s definitely started to take a toll on our relationship and stretch our patience with each other.

I’m just itching to get through the next four days until I can go home again to see him for spring break. Unfortunately, in these four days, I have two days of studying to get through and four exams spread throughout my two days of class. It’s also been tough because he’s spent the last few days helping his family move into a new house, and so we haven’t been able to talk to each other as much as we’d like. This has been extremely frustrating for me because talking on the phone makes up most of our relationship when we’re not together, and not being able to do that really stresses me out. I keep telling myself. Four more days. That’s it. That’s it…

Girls, how do you deal with long-distance relationships?
