This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Name: Andy Lugo-Reyes, 23

Major: Computer Science

Her Campus Texas: What does your family do for Thanksgiving?

Andy Lugo-Reyes: My family usually gets together around 2:00pm and prepares all manner of Puerto Rican cuisine to share with the family. Afterwards, I kick everyone off the TV so I can watch some Longhorn football! I am a first generation Longhorn so my family doesn’t understand my sense of urgency. Hook ’em!

HCTX: What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

ALR: If you were to ask anyone who knows me, they would all tell you that I am a food enthusiast with a wide variety of likes and little dislikes. Choosing a favorite dish, especially for Thanksgiving, requires hours of pondering and internal struggle. If I had to choose one, I would have to say good ol’ green bean casserole! But you can’t go wrong with stuffing….or turkey…or gravy.

HCTX: What is your favorite thing about Austin in the fall?

ALR: Everyone knows that fall means football. Football in Austin means Longhorn football. Longhorn football means a lot of burnt orange, tailgating, and celebrating with your friends. In short, I would have to say the atmosphere on game days.

HCTX: What is the craziest thing that has happened to you over the holidays?

ALR: I am not sure if Halloween counts as a holiday, but we celebrate it as if it were one so I’m going with it. One never knows what they’re going to see on a day where the general public is required to dress up in elaborate costumes. The years have brought many crazy adventures on Halloween so it’s hard to choose just one, but every time is different and deserves a mention in and of itself…plus it’s my birthday!

HCTX: If you could go anywhere in the world during the holidays, where would you go?

ALR: Call me old-fashioned, but the place I would want to go most is whereever my friends and family are. I have all year to travel and experience new places, but holidays are the times to spend with family and reminisce about old times regardless of where you are. Being in college, it is implied that times will become stressful and busy, but holidays give us all an excuse to escape and be around the people who care about you most.
