10 Shows To Help You Procrastinate

It’s the final stretch. We only have 3 more weeks of class and then finals and we are done for the semester. I don’t know about you but that went by awfully quick. I also don’t know about you but despite all the added stress of test, end of the semester jitters, senioritis (or junioritis maybe even freshmanitis for some of you I’m not here to judge), whatever it may be I have never felt more compelled to procrastinate and binge watch TV shows. Honestly I have had an entire year of this feeling and have finished more TV series than I would like to admit in the past 12 months. So I give you, my professional binge watching opinion of all my favorite shows to help aid your poor decision making. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

1. 13 Reasons Why

  • They are calling this one the best show on Netflix right now. I am not done (I definitely will be by the time you read this, to be honest) but I 10/10 recommend. There are some parts that seem a bit cliche high school drama, but it is extremely relevant and the plot line is great. Every episode has you wanting to watch the next one to see how everything connects. I expect tears in the near future, stay tuned.

2. The People Vs. OJ Simpson

  • If you have not seen this yet, turn on your TV, flip open your laptop whatever device you Netflix on and start watching NOW! It is sensational, and really hits on some topics that are still at hand today. In addition, I found it very intriguing to get to see it for my own two eyes like my parents did as I was not even born yet at the time of the actual trial. Not to mention this mini series killed it at all this award season. Only con I have is they totally could have picked a better Robert Kardashian. Sorry David Schwimmer, you will forever be Ross Geller in my eyes.

3. This is Us

  • I literally got a Hulu account for the sake of watching this show. My mom raved about it every week but obviously, college kid, I can’t watch a live episode of TV on cable every week at the same time. So I got Hulu and best decision ever! I cannot WAIT for season 2. I watched the first 10 episodes in a day and watched the rest weekly as they were posted to Hulu after premiering. I was hooked on it, it’s like Modern Family, but not funny (some funny parts but not a comedic show), it’s real, it’s emotional, it’s everything.

4. How To Get Away With Murder

  • Season 3 just got added to Netflix and of course it only took me a weekend to finish (insert hair flip emoji). I LOVE this show, the drama, Viola Davis, the twists and turns. I have actual anxiety attacks during the show and I wouldn’t have it any other way. If you have never seen an episode I promise season 1 will have you begging for more, and luckily, unlike the first 3 shows I have suggested above, there are three seasons so far for you to binge watch.

  • 5. Scandal

  • If you love How To Get Away With Murder, you will love Scandal. It has made me question the US government in so many twisted ways I almost wish these thoughts were never injected in my brain in the first place but at the same time I thank you Shonda Rhimes for another hit (first hit being Grey’s which is next up).

6. Grey’s Anatomy

  • I have a special connection with Grey’s Anatomy. I feel like I am the 3rd friend in the Meredith and Alex bestie group. I sincerely miss Christina, and lowkey hate Shonda Rhimes for killing off my love, McDreamy. (Come on that is not a spoiler, y’all already knew that even if you’ve never watched) If you love endless drama, love stories, or crying when the wife of the happy old couple dies, then Grey’s is for you, and there are 12 seasons on Netflix, so that will have you occupied for awhile.

7. Parenthood

  • This one I don’t think is nearly as popular as the previous 6 shows but it should be. It stars Lorelai Gilmore, I mean Lauren Graham, who plays nearly the same character (which is good because she is type casted) and her two brothers and sister and their families. I cried way more times then I would like to admit while watching, so if you enjoy crying for fun (I know I do #justgirlythings), then I highly suggest Parenthood. Side Note: V sad that they just stopped making this show, there could have been so many more Braverman mems. Tear.

8. Series of Unfortunate Events

  • I know y’all read these books in elementary school, and I am sure you saw the Jim Carrey movie a few years back too, so you might as well just watch the Netflix series too. Neil Patrick Harris does a scary good job being Count Olaf, like honestly I had to adjust to him not being Barney Stinson. Only one season so far and it was a much better production than the original movie and more similar to the books.

9. One Tree Hill

  • Oldie but goodie. I know multiple people who re-watch this show and/or specific episodes for fun or to shed a tear (I am not the only one who likes to cry for fun). Although I will never get over Chad Michael Murry leaving the show, there are so many other things that make up for it in later seasons. #TreeHillRavens4Ever

10. Gossip Girl

  • Another classic, also another popular one to rewatch because I am sure most of you have already seen it. I am sure most of you have also insta captioned some variation of the quote “She is the Blair to my Serena”. If this show doesn’t make you wish you were an Upper Eastsider instead of a sleep deprived college kid… well then props to you.

These are just ten of my favorites, I could probably review a hundred more, but then that would expose my binge watching addiction to the world. But anyway, come on, how many college kids don’t average at least one season of a show per week? Oh none? My bad, well, just take my word for it and check these out. Happy binge watching!
