Three Indie Artist You Need To Watch Out For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

It seems like everywhere we turn, there is a new artist becoming famous overnight. We found some up and coming indie artists that are sure to make it onto your next Spotify playlist.

Phoebe Ryan- This singer/songwriter is going to be the next big thing. Jersey born and raised, Ryan attended the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU. Her EP, “Mine,” was released last year with Columbia records. Her songs all have a chill, pop-y vibe, scattered with low key bass drops and a hauntingly beautiful voice. She also writes songs for other artists including Britney Spears (“Man on the Moon”), The Knocks (“The Key”) and Melanie Martinez (“Teddy Bear”). Her newest album, name TBA, is due for release in 2016. Anyone would love this angel voice, but especially those who are fans of Oh, Honey, Mt Eden and Tove Lo

Daddy Issues-  What can only be described as a witchy grunge sound, Daddy Issues is a grunge-pop group from Nashville, Tennessee. Their sound is reminiscent of the early Riot Grrrl days, with a constant drum beat, hardcore bass and raw voices that blend together harmoniously. The band signed with Indie label Infinity Cat Records and produced their EP “Can We Still Hang” in 2015. The band is currently on tour and will open for Taco Cat at Philly’s very own Underground Arts on October 3. Perfect for fans of White Reaper, Issues and Still Corners

K.i.D.- Or, Kids in Despair, is an amazing Canadian garage band. The Duo, Kara and Bobby, jokingly call themselves brother and sister, when in actuality the two 23-year-olds met in high school and soon after created K.i.D. The band has been signed and dropped by labels more times than they can count, but seem to have hit their stride with their 2015 self-titled EP release. For a band started quite literally in Kara’s alcoholic mother’s basement, their sound is exactly what you would expect a garage band to sound like, with a few strikingly beautiful ballads thrown in. But what really makes this band special is their lyrics. The duo focuses on drugs and alcohol in a very fun but also serious way with songs like “The Bong Song” and “Drunk Enough to Love Me.”

Good for fans of Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice and The Strokes.
