Learning Self-Care in Strange Places

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

It’s easy to prioritize schoolwork and social events over exercise and eating healthy. We’ve all succumbed to eating pizza at 3 am sometimes. It happens. With about.com, however, you can find an array of delicious AND healthy recipes that are easy to make.

College students can utilize this website for health tips, study abroad planning, DIY dorm ideas, and more.

For example, about.com has a list of Valentine’s Day desserts that are healthy and don’t take much time to prepare.

Finding time to exercise is also difficult when you’re juggling so many other obligations. About.com’s health section offers informative tips on the benefits of fitting exercise into your weekly routine. Articles also offer suggestions on staying motivated and ultimately reaching your goal.

In addition to physical health, about.com deals with mental health as well. The word “stress” to describe the lives of college students can often times be an understatement.

If you have trouble sleeping, for instance, about.com has an article exploring possible reasons for this. Besides just offering a simple explanation, the article proposes a course of action to solve the issue at hand.

There are multiple sections regarding sleep and hundreds of tips to help transform your poor sleep habits. Getting a good night’s sleep is imperative, and about.com is an excellent resource to assist you in kicking these bad practices to the curb.

Money is a concept that we hate dealing with. Should you splurge on those boots you really want or save your money? The  money section of about.com has a comprehensive list of articles ranging from “5 Bad Money Habits You Have to Quit ASAP” to “Avoid College Financial Aid Scams”. There’s an entire section solely dedicated to college finances, which is extremely useful.

Covering all of the tidbits of information on this encyclopedia of limitless information is downright impossible. If you’re looking for the answers to your burning questions, about.com is probably the right place. (Disclaimer: It’s also super addicting and you may end up reading articles that have nothing to do with what you originally were looking for, but you’re learning new information nonetheless).
