Fall into Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

In light of the temperatures dropping from a couple weeks ago’s high-mid 80’s to this week’s mid-low 70’s, collegiates are probably planning to put away those coveted summer frocks and pull out the sweaters and jeans in preparation for the approaching autumn.

Closet floors are freed of sandals, only to be replaced by flats and boots. Hangers are burdened with the weight of jackets and coats, as more and more protection from the weather will be necessary with the passing away of summer once again.

A new trend, though, is emerging, threatening to do away with this seasonal swap, and after this you’re about to be on the cutting edge of cool…literally.

Cold weather doesn’t have to mean covering up. With these tips and tricks, you can turn your favorite summer outfit into your NEW favorite fall ensemble!

1. The dress. The skater dress is one of the newest silhouettes on the scene, with a signature flared pleated skirt. Turn this dress, or any dress, from a summer show-stopper to a flattering fall feature by throwing on a neutral colored wool blazer and replacing the strappy sandal-heels with this season’s favorite ballet flats or a pair of platform-free, pointy toed pumps. Feeling edgy? Try some studded biker boots instead.

2. The shorts. Yes, shorts can indeed be transferred from summertime-fine to an autumn-leg-enhancing piece with the addition of tights or thigh-high socks. Rock your favorite jean cut-offs or invest in some wool and tweed shorts made specifically for the colder seasons. Pair these items with a fall-friendly flannel and cardigan and you’re ready to go!

3. The tank top. Take a sleeker, sexier approach to tank tops in the fall than usual. Rather than layering different color tanks, wearing a button down or jean jacket over them and adding a scarf, try a simple white beater or racer-back tank with a pair of dark wash jeans and a leather biker jacket. Nothing is sexier to a man than a simple ensemble with a pair of poppin’ pumps (or the newest Jordan’s, depending on your swag). Enhance the look with a statement metal collar.
