3 Creative Valentine’s Day Date Ideas in Philly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

A little glimpse of pink and red is entering this gloomy, blue month: You guessed it, it’s almost Valentine’s Day! Although not all of us are ~in love~ with our current relationship statuses, that doesn’t mean we have to sulk around and dread Valentine’s Day and go for the cliche “Anti-Valentine’s Day” thing. Be different this year and take advantage of all the fun Philadelphia has to offer whether it be with friends, girlfriends, or boyfriends.

Ice Skating at the Rothman Rink at Dilworth Park

If you haven’t attended Dilworth Park’s Rothman ice skating rink, Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to go. The rink is open until the 25th and the frigid February weather will set the mood for cuddling up with your partner or sipping on a specialty hot chocolate. Hanging string lights and fun music take the ice skating experience to the next level. Not to mention, the view of center city from the rink is truly breathtaking and romantic. An added bonus: Temple students get a discount with their student ID!

Yoga & Coffee in Fishtown

Get down (or, should I say, “downward dog”) in Fishtown with couples yoga at Amrita Yoga and Wellness Studio. Doing yoga with your S.O. will benefit you both physically, and will let you experience a trendy neighborhood you may have not known about before. (read: Fishtown = more aesthetic than North Philly) After stretching, reflecting, and relaxing in class, you can then grab a nice coffee at one of the cafes in the area. Milkcrate Cafe offers a unique atmosphere with records and funky music along with amazing mochas. Yoga, lattes, indie music, and a kick-ass vibe––what more could a boho-city girl (and potentially her hot date) ask for?

Murder Mystery Show at The Red Owl Tavern

The Red Owl Tavern will be hosting a Murder Mystery show on Valentine’s Day (February 14th) from 7p.m. to 10p.m. Tickets include a three course meal, so think of this date idea as a new spin on the classic dinner and a movie. Attending this event would make the day special and can be enjoyed by scary movie enthusiasts. Good food AND a good fun, it can be enjoyed by couples and anti-Valentine’s-day-bash-throwers because it doesn’t focus on cheesy normalities of the holiday.

Philadelphia is not the City of Brotherly LOVE for no reason! If none of my ideas satisfy your wants for this year, there are plenty more things to do including clay/pottery workshops, museums, discounted three-course menus, all just a $2.50 subway ride away! Use Valentine’s Day as a way to “treat yo’ self” and the ones you love. Stop being cliche, step away from your homework, and enjoy a night in the city.
