Why Your Planner Should Be Your BFF

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

Whether its people, food or both that we consider our BFFs, your new BFF for the year will be your planner because you will always need it and you can always count on it. Your planner is easy, will always be there for you, and ready to be used; who wouldn’t want that in a BFF?

All jokes aside, your planner will be your lifesaver. Buy a planner that is cute and you are excited to use. Something with color, something that speaks to you and you just can’t wait to open and use. Because college is such a busy time between classes, assignments, clubs, meetings, sport practices and a social life, it is easy to have things slip your mind. That’s why it is so important to keep a planner on you so you can write down EVERYTHING. Here are some tips on how to organize and maintain a planner:

  1. Color-code your planner. The use of colors when writing down assignments, clubs or social events can differentiate details and make your planner look organized and much easier to read.
  2. Check off items on your planner that you have completed or attended. This way, you’ll never be unsure of what you have done and you will know exactly what you have left.
  3. Always keep a paper clip, binder clip or some sort of sticky for the day of the week, so you know exactly where to flip to and you won’t waste time flipping through pages.
  4. Write down events or assignments beforehand in your planner. If you know something is happening next week make sure to jot it down that way you won’t forget and can plan everything else around it.
  5. Lastly, keep it with you and make sure to use it and love it like a best friend.

Everyone needs BFFs in their lives. With a planner, you will not only have a friend, but you will always be able to make time for your real friends!
