TCNJ Resources That Will Help You Stay On Track This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

With first semester halfway done, it’s not too late to take advantage of some of the free resources TCNJ has to offer.  Hopefully these tips will help make this semester the best one yet!

1)    Tutoring Center

Located in Roscoe West, is the Tutoring Center, which everyone should take advantage of. Whether you’re struggling in your hardest class or just want to stay on top of your homework, the Tutoring Center offers assistance for every department.  This free service offers small group sessions, drop-ins and one-on-one tutoring by students who have excelled in the subject you want help with.

2)    Center for Mindfulness and Compassion

The mission of this center is to help students reach their full potential in all aspects of life through mindfulness and compassion.  Meditation is an excellent way for students to reduce stress and anxiety.  Mindfulness and Compassion Training focuses on teaching students how to be present in their everyday life and the importance of showing compassion for self and others.

(Drop-in Meditation sessions are held in the Spiritual Center Monday’s 6:30pm, Tuesday’s 8:45am, Wednesday’s 8:45pm, Thursday’s 8:45am, Friday’s 5pm

and weekly dinners to discuss mindfulness and compassion are from 7 to 8:30pm)

3)    CAPS

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is located in Eickhoff Hall Room 107, and

is one of the most beneficial resources available to students at TCNJ.  CAPS offers small group and individual counseling for students in need of academic, personal, physical, interpersonal, social or spiritual help.  CAPS is a confidential service and has a team of licensed mental health professionals whose goal is to create a safe environment for students.

4)    Center for Student Success

The Center for Student Success has one goal—to give students the tools to reach their full potential.  Students can meet with Peer Advising Coaches to discuss their academic/career plans and receive useful and practical advice as to how to meet their goals.  The Center offers seminars on note taking tips, time management workshops and how to survive finals.

5)    Humanitarian Yoga Club

Whether you’ve studied yoga for years or are a beginner, the Humanitarian Yoga Club welcomes everyone.  Yoga is a perfect way to de-stress and stay active.  The Humanitarian Yoga Club strives to improve the lives of students by “promoting physical and mental wellness.”  This club also hosts a Mindfulness Week full of calming activities and of course– yoga.

(Meetings are held every other Wednesday at 2 pm in the Rec Center Fitness Studio Room)

6)    TCNJ Writer’s Place

We’ve all experienced writer’s block before.  At the Writer’s Place, tutors will help you from brainstorming to proofreading your final paper.  This service is free and it’s always a good idea to have a second pair of eyes look at your writing!  Go to Room 101 Roscoe West to make your appointment with the Writer’s Place.
