TCNJ Alumni Wins Prestigious Award

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

A former Editor-In-Chief of Her Campus TCNJ is making headlines!

Each year, the New York Women in Communications Foundation (NYWICI) awards 15 to 20 scholarships to graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students who intend to pursue or further their career in communications.

Within the “Class of 2016,” whom NYWICI gave scholarships to for this year, was a TCNJ Alumna – Hilarey Wojtowicz, of Linden, New Jersey.

Hilarey currently works full-time while also attending graduate school online at the University of Missouri, where she is studying for her Masters in Journalism and Interactive Multimedia.

While she was at TCNJ, she was Editor-In-Chief of Her Campus TCNJ and wrote for The Signal. She graduated with a degree in Journalism in 2013.

When talking about NYWICI, Wojtowicz said in an email, “it is an amazing group of women and I cannot stress enough how truly passionate I am about what they are doing.”

The 2016 scholarship recipients were awarded at the annual Matrix Awards, which is the communications industry event of the year. The event took place on April 25, 2016 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. More than 1,000 people attended from the communications industry.

The New York Women in Communications Foundation is known to be the largest foundation for communications scholarships for women in the country. Scholarships total more than $100,000 each year and since the Foundation’s formal establishment in 2000, it has issued close to $1.5 million in scholarship support.

We wanted to congratulate Hilarey Wojtowicz on her accomplishments and wish her the best in her journalism career!

Scholarships are awarded annually based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community-service activities, honors and other awards or recognition, work experience, and a statement of goals and aspirations.

We encourage YOU to apply for a scholarship! The 2017 online application will be open in November.
