Tales from a Black Friday Shopper

By Kate Allen
November 25, 2012 - 11:40pm

If you ever want to see how people are going to act in the apocalypse, go Black Friday shopping. The notorious after-Thanksgiving sale day is when stores chop prices, enticing potential customers for clothing and toys galore. When else are you going to see grandmothers fight a grown man for a $15 blender? When else do people line up outside Target and Walmart for hours and sprint into the store like they’re participating in a marathon? The answer is (hopefully) never. READ MORE

From Both Sides

“I would never do a sorority in college,” are the words still echoing in my head from a conversation I had with my friends senior year of high school. It was true, I was anti-sorority before I came to college. Based solely on the movies I watched and the stories that supposedly happened to the cousin of a sister of a friend, I was so sure I knew enough to make a sound decision about Greek life.  But during my first days of freshman year, some of my initial observations were that a TCNJ bicyclist was going to run me over, the Eickhoff cookies were illegally delicious, and every other person I saw seemed to have Greek letters on his or her shirt. Lies Romance Movies Told Us

By Kristen Lauletti
October 15, 2012 - 2:56pm

So by now you are back into the swing of things with classes, your dorm is decorated so it doesn’t resemble a jail cell, and you are already on that iced mocha latte grind. The only thing that is missing is that special someone. Now, I know it sounds appealing to find that dream guy in college, take walks together in the Fall while both wearing oversized sweaters, and then live on to tell your kids about those walks and said sweaters. But the expectations girls have about a guy and the romance she dreams of cultivating with him are too unrealistic, and the romance movies out there are to blame. READ MORE

Even though it still feels like the semester has barely begun, it is in fact time to start thinking about where you want to live next year, especially if you’re thinking of moving off campus. It’s a big commitment and takes a lot of work to find the perfect house or apartment, so here are some tips to help you get the process started: READ MORE

Nothing To Do? Think Again

By Julia Corbett
October 9, 2012 - 3:00am

We’ve all said it: there’s nothing to do at TCNJ. Boredom kicks in regularly and we become jaded college students, unwilling to see what else is out there besides what we already know – parties, mall, and movies. The only excitement comes from finding out who CUB’s bringing for the next concert or what really expensive regional party (remember Dayglow?) is coming soon. We’re college students. We’re supposed to be enjoying this time in our life. Why on earth are we so bored? READ MORE

Football Isn't Just For Boys

By Colleen Murphy
October 8, 2012 - 3:00am

The air is crisp and the snack aisles in Walmart and Shop Rite are packed with people in football jerseys buying last-minute items for their parties. The theme songs for NBC Sunday Night Football and NFL on CBS and the robots from NFL on FOX all welcome the game and viewers to sit and watch - or stand and scream at the screen if they are that person. It must be game day. People usually think of football as a "man's sport." Well, they thought wrong. Girls get just as excited as men do for football games. Who doesn't appreciate a table filled with pigs in a blanket, pretzels, chips, and salsa? Game day is a day when women don't have to feel guilty about eating anything and everything in sight. Who Runs the World? Girls!

By Kristen Lauletti
September 30, 2012 - 11:35pm

When you think about, we’ve had friends from before we could remember. They are a necessary part of our lives and as women we find comfort in the presence of other women to help, guide, and support us. But did you know that there is a holiday dedicated to solely celebrating these friendships with other women? READ MORE

Did You Spend Your Summer in an English Castle?

By Rachel Chlebowski
September 24, 2012 - 3:00am

If you were anywhere near the Alumni Grove on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from noon to 3 p.m., you might have seen the Study Abroad Fair being held there. Many programs in various countries were represented, but as far as I know, only one table had a stuffed dalek straight out of the British cult sci-fi show Doctor Who and a Hufflepuff pendant bought at the Harry Potter Studio Tour right outside of London. My Hufflepuff pendant. READ MORE
