How to De-stress Over Spring Break, Even Though You Have A Lot of Homework

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

It’s that time of year again- spring break! It’s a great opportunity to catch up on sleep, see friends and family from home, and have a little vacation from daily college responsibilities. It is also an opportunity for your professors to assign a lot of homework.

Here are some ways to de-stress over spring break even when you have a pile of homework due as soon as you get back to class:

  1. Sleep in most of the week.

Just because you have things to do throughout each day of break, doesn’t mean you have to wake up early every day. Don’t feel bad to sleep in for a few extra hours, because ultimately, that’s what break is for! Catch up on your sleep and then worry about what you have to do, otherwise you’ll be just as tired when you return to campus as you were when you left.

  2. Do not feel bad for not doing work when you are with friends.

This quite a regular feeling when we are on campus. We are out, at a friend’s dorm, or spending time with people off-campus, and there’s the annoying feeling that we should be doing studying for class or working on our club activities. But when you are spending time with people who you don’t see on a regular basis and will not see again until summer, don’t feel the need to leave early because you have homework. You have time, you don’t have class tomorrow, so don’t worry too much.

  3. Whatever you do, DON’T procrastinate.

More of a general life rule rather than a spring-break rule (that we all have trouble following), don’t procrastinate your work. Leaving everything to the end of spring break and having to spend the weekend before classes cramming will only leave you sour and panicked. Do a little bit each day, get things done in a timely matter, and if you can, try to leave the last day of break open for real relaxation.

  4. Go to the places that make you happy.

Everyone has their favorite restaurant to eat at when they are home, or their favorite spot to visit with friends. Take advantage of spring break to go anywhere you enjoy being, that way you do not feel as though you spent all of your time at home. Get out and enjoy the (maybe) great weather.

  5. Save some time to do nothing.

After all, break is break. Even though you might have homework, you can still save some time each day to nap or watch television or just sit around doing anything that makes you happy. I especially recommend this at night, since most nights on campus are for working.
