5 Mysterious Season 2 “Riverdale” Theories

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

The CW’s TV show Riverdale has been one of the most mysterious breakout shows of 2017. So far season two has been filled with new secrets that keep fans on their toes. Here are five possible theories we can see playing out as season two continues!

  1. The Black Hood is really Geraldine Grundy’s Ex

Season one went out with a bang – literally. Archie Andrew’s father Fred was shot in Pops. Luckily viewers now know that Fred survived the horrible shooting, but Ms. Grundy was not so lucky. She was murdered in the ending of the season two premiere. Also, two other teenagers were shot at, but they survived. It almost seems like the black hood wants them to survive and provokes the question, “Why was Ms. Grundy the only one who was strangled and not shot and that didn’t survive?” It was exposed during season one that Grundy had ran away from her abusive ex-husband and changed her name. Maybe he found her and is now wreaking havoc on the town she escaped to.

  2.  Archie is going to cheat on Veronica with Betty

In episode five of season two, the black hood demanded Betty to break up with Jughead in order to ensure his safety. This traumatic turn of events left Jughead in the arms of Tony, fellow Southside Serpent. With Betty devastated over this, it’s possible that she will lean on Archie for emotional support in the next few episodes. After all, Archie is the only person that knows about the black hood contacting Betty, so it may bring them together. Also, in the past few episodes one can see Archie growing annoyed of Veronica’s stuck up attitude. Sorry V.

  3. The Supernatural may find itself in Riverdale

There are many theories circulating that Mrs. Cooper is actually a witch! A BuzzFeed video recently discussed that in the comic book The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, people who have a witch gene must go through a baptism during a Satanic Ritual in order to fully transform into witches. If not, one would just live their life as a mortal. This is relevant to Riverdale because Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasar tweeted in October a picture of the Sabrina comic stating that the Riverdale family is expanding. So the theory could be that Alice did go through the satanic ritual but chose not to have Betty and Polly go through it in order to live a normal life. So who knows maybe something wicked comes this way.

 4.  Penelope Blossom Murdered Clifford and Faked his Suicide

In the season two premiere Cheryl blackmailed her mother and said, “I’ll tell everyone what really happened in the barn with Daddy.” This happened when Penelope was in the hospital after Cheryl set Thornhill on fire. As we know, season one ended with Clifford Blossom committing suicide after it came to light that he murdered his son Jason Blossom. So did Penelope murder her own husband? This would definitely make sense. After all, Clifford murdered her only son and her favorite child.

5. Clifford Blossom Faked His Own Death and is now the Black Hood

This theory goes hand in hand with number four, when Cheryl blackmailed her mother. This could also be about allowing Clifford to survive and go into hiding. With Clifford still being alive, maybe he is posing as the black hood and is getting revenge on the children who proved he was the murderer of his own son.

Which theory do you see happening as the season continues?
