Ladies, it’s that time of year again between Halloween and Christmas – Thanksgiving. I know a lot of us are more keen on the idea of blasting Christmas music through our dorm and stocking up on Target fuzzy socks for the next decade, but this year, I decided to give the dessert portion of an under-hyped holiday some much needed attention. Yes, I’m talking about pies, but more specifically, a ranking of the best and worst pies for this year’s Thanksgiving.

Best:

Pecan Pie It’s old-fashioned. It’s traditional. It’s straight-out your grandmother’s oven, and it’s certainly a treat. I’m clearly talking about pecan ie, which is always a must at a Thanksgiving festivity. Its crunchy, yet sweet texture is something we all can’t turn down. This pie holds a special place in my heart because it’s the first pie I ever had a slice of and it instantly won me over. So, this Thanksgiving clear a space on your table (if you haven’t already) for the best pie of this year.

Apple Pie This is the most All-American pie you can even have at your table. It’s sweet, but not too sweet. It’s wholesome, just like Thanksgiving and spending time with family. This is a pie that just has to make an appearance at your dinner table this year. However, if it’s not next to a scoop of vanilla ice cream (low-fat of course), then you’re doing Thanksgiving all wrong.

Also, another reason you should have these pies at your table this season is because even James Franco thinks they’re good and that’s enough for me.

Worst:

Pumpkin Pie This is gosh darn awful mush. I am well aware that a good majority of pies have creamy centers, but there’s just something about pumpkin pies that I find absolutely disgusting. Is it the fact it has a kind of squishy “appeal” to it? The fact it’s made of pumpkin? Or the fact it has no flavor? The point is you only bring out the pumpkin pie because you’re not experienced in holiday desserts and bought it on a whim or you don’t love yourself (harsh? yes, but totally necessary).

Chocolate Pie Now don’t get me wrong I love chocolate, it’s one of the best food groups. However, chocolate has no place being in a pie in any aspect. It’s blasphemy of the highest form let alone allowing it to sit at your dinner table for Thanksgiving. Save yourself the embarrassment this holiday season.

With all that being said, I hope you ladies have a fabulous Thanksgiving Break.
