Kamala Harris’ Fight for Black Rights in 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

Kamala Harris is a former attorney general and current senator of California. Harris has been a strong advocate for the African American community since the 90s, when she began her career in politics. Recently, during Black History Month, Harris has taken to twitter to voice her opinion on issues within the Black community in California as well as the United States.

In one of Harris’ most popular tweets, she says, “If you’ve ever wondered what you would have done during the Civil Rights Movement, this is your opportunity to find out.” Harris is decorating our timelines with Black women who have made history such as Violet Palmer, Rosa Parks, Carol Moseley Braun, and Laverne Cox. Here are some of her powerfully worded tweets this month.
