By Tress Kassen

Beginning on an unfortunately serious note: the Bernie Fine scandal continues to rage on. Despite receiving far less attention than the events at Penn State, the fallout persists, as Bobby Lang and Mike Davis, former ‘Cuse basketball players who claim Fine sexually assaulted them, filed a defamation suit against Jim Boeheim, who claimed Lang and Davis were liars. When you’re first planning a trip abroad, depending on your location of study, you might be thinking about all the delicious food you will be indulging. Pasta in Italy, fish and chips in London and Turkish delights in Istanbul — delicious! But one thing you might not be thinking about is the cost of these foreign delicacies. READ MORE

Budgeting abroad

By Stephanie Smith
November 13, 2011 - 5:01pm

At home I have a routine of things that I enjoy doing. Going to the gym, getting a manicure, getting my eyebrows waxed, doing random shopping on Marshall Street, grabbing a coffee from Starbucks—the list goes on and on. Of course, all of these things cost money but I’m able to fit it in my monthly budget. So, when I went abroad I was assuming that I would be able to have the same luxuries as I do in the States. No problem, right? Wrong. READ MORE

Graduating Early: The real world closes in

By Tonya Nelson
November 7, 2011 - 6:43pm

I feel so old. A few days ago, I met with my advisors and had a degree check. I found out I only have four more classes for my magazine major and another four classes left for my art history major--a lot less than I had originally thought. Besides needing a few other classes to get 120 credits, my college life will be finished in two short semesters--plus a summer session abroad. READ MORE

Study Abroad: Traveling around the world one weekend at a time

By Stephanie Smith
November 3, 2011 - 7:31am

One of the best things about weekends while studying abroad is traveling. Going from London to Paris is like driving from New York to Pennsylvania. It’s about three hours away and is as easy as hopping on a train. Of course, you need to remember that making a weekend trip means you’ll be away from your study abroad location. So, you need to have a good balance between other countries and your study abroad spot. READ MORE

Going to London I thought my life was going to be a breeze. I had heard classes were super easy and all the classes I signed up for were for my major and minor. I thought to myself I was going to get an easy 4.0 while this might be true for some cases, it's time to put the abroad rumors to rest. READ MORE

I Don't Understand Why... People Re-friend Me on Facebook

By Michelle Wong
October 9, 2011 - 12:37am

I'm a bit obsessed with social media - as a PR student, I believe that I need to be. I'm on twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and I have a blog (although I do have to update that soon). But, because I'm on two professional social media outlets (Twitter and LinkedIn), I find that I'd rather have one that's for personal use only - my Facebook. When I was younger, the "cool" thing to do was to have as many friends as possible - I remember my friends and I competing to get the most Facebook Friends. This would prove that we were, indeed, popular, and not complete losers with no actual friends. Then, when we got into college, everybody was friending everybody before we really met anybody - we just wanted to pretend like we had tons of friends before we even got on...

Dear HC Syracuse Readers, I know I vent to my friends a lot. And I probably would do well in therapy - there's always a question about my social or romantic life I need answered. But, there are also so many other questions that I don't like to ask my friends, either because they're embarrasing, or the question involves them. So, for those questions, or even situations, we've decided to start up a "Dear Abby" column, Syracuse-style. Tell all your friends to email your questions to askhcsyracuse@gmail.com, and every Wednesday our anonymous Abby will answer all your questions. Let your friends know! hcxo,
