The Apps I Use Most at Susquehanna University
When you enroll in college and commit to a university, there are hundreds of lists that discuss what items are necessary for college. These lists contain dorm accessories, school supplies, and fashion lists but never contain apps that are essential to get by. My app recommendations are specific to Susquehanna University but can be applied to other colleges.
1. GroupMe
GroupMe is an app you will love and hate. It’s pretty much a group chat app which allows you to keep out unwanted phone numbers in your phone and allows group chats that are compatable between all types of smart phones. For group projects, clubs, and classes, GroupMe can be beneficial to keep track of what others are doing and it’s a good way to meet people. The only downside is that people don’t understand when a message is necessary to a group or if it is necessary to send a direct message. This causes unwanted messages and notifications. Block notifications if necessary if this happens…please don’t be the person who messages in a groupchat 24/7.
2. Outlook
Susquehanna’s e-mail is based in Outlook. The best way to keep up with important and time sensitive opportunities is to have this app and your notifications on. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve missed my freshman year because I didn’t have this app. I would forget to look at my e-mails and it would be about a week later until I realized I forgot to check it. Don’t make my mistake. Put the notifications on. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
3. SU311
This is the app Susquehanna uses to put in work orders. Work orders are descriptions of problems that Facilities Management needs to take care of, like broken screens, bugs, and broken doors. This is a great app to have. Problems don’t matter until they happen to us personally, and this app will help take care of the issue sooner. If Facilities aren’t notified, it isn’t getting fixed. The app does send annoying e-mails about issues around you, but they can be deleted. It’s easy to use and has important phone numbers for emergencies.
4. Starbucks
Our campus has a Starbucks located in the Degenstein building. The Starbucks app is nice to keep gift cards on, so you don’t have to carry them with. One of the worst things is having a gift card and forgetting it when you walk all the way to Starbucks. You can also earn rewards for paying with the app. Who doesn’t like rewards and coffee?
5. Google Keep
This app is optional, but I like to use it because it allows you to create lists that you can check off, notes, and hand drawn memos. I like to make to-do lists on it to organize all that I have to accomplish. I also put things in order of due date and importance. Checking items off a list gives me instant gratification and I feel must more productive during the day.
These are my app recommendations as a sophomore student at Susquehanna University. There are more apps that can be used and I’m sure other students might disagree with my choices. These apps are just what I use weekly to help me get through these crazy four years.
