Drama, romance, intimacy and quirky humor… Fifty Shades of Grey has it all. The jaw-dropping book turned movie has been the talk of millions of people since it was first published in 2011. After four years, fans were finally given what they’ve been waiting for. Within three days of the release date, the erotic movie set a record of $81.7 million! For most people, they were skeptical about the book being turned into a movie. How would they turn a sensual and passionate book into a movie without making it literal pornography? Everyone had the same questions that ran through their minds: Is it going to be good? Will they stay true to the book? How much will they show? Some viewers were satisfied, while others were dissatisfied about the outcome of the controversial movie.

Those who read the book(s) could better understand and appreciate the reasons behind the unusual storyline. Christian Grey is portrayed as a much bigger controlling psycho in the movie opposed to being portrayed as a complex and secret romantic throughout the book. In the book, the reader begins to fall in love with Christian’s character along with Anastasia Steele. Ana’s descriptions about Christian in the book makes the reader imagine this ideal man in front of their eyes attracting them to this intimidating character. The movie doesn’t show much of how Ana begins to change Christian for the better. Christian begins to make changes for Ana to fit her wants and needs which shows how much he truly cares for her. The problem is, people were so concerned about the intimate parts in the movie that they looked past the romantic side of Christian that he began to develop for Ana.

The audience isn’t to blame for being so intrigued by the intimate parts. They were impossible to avoid considering the book is fundamentally based on an S&M relationship. There is no doubt that the intimate parts of Fifty Shades define the book and movie’s storyline. Let’s just say Fifty Shades of Grey had the potential to be rated a lot worse than R.

Fifty Shades of Grey was a captivating movie starting with the soundtrack to the way it brought the audience a combination of different types of genres wrapped into one movie. All of these elements kept viewers interested in what would happen next. For those who never read the book it was no surprise that they were taken aback by the unexplained gruesome intentions of Christian Grey. Some may say that Fifty Shades of Grey portrayed an abusive relationship and domestic violence, but Christian is nothing more than a sex addict whom, like he says, “Enjoys control in all things.”

In my opinion, Jamie Dornan was the perfect Christian Grey as well as Dakota Johnson being the perfect Anastasia Steele. Jamie brought the ideal amount of sexiness, intimidation, and politeness to his character. Dakota was the perfect combination of a weird, quirky and clumsy person that Ana is portrayed as in the book. Together Jamie and Dakota worked perfectly to form the attraction between the two characters making the audience believe the love and connection between them. Both truly got into their characters, which was necessary in order to make such an erotic story worth watching.

Fifty Shades of Grey is a must see (for those of proper age, of course) regardless of the type of audience or their relationship status. When passion and love is added into the story line of a book or movie, anyone can be intrigued by the idea.
