If you asked my friends or family to name the defining part of my style, something I never leave the house without, they would inevitably say lipstick. For almost two years now, I’ve worn lipstick every single day, and have acquired a collection that makes my bureau resemble a counter at Sephora. There’s just something about putting on a bright purple, a pastel pink, or a deep red that totally transforms a look and makes me feel like Diana Prince just before she turns into Wonder Woman to save the day.
I didn’t always have the super power-like confidence that comes with a nice statement color though. I used to be embarrassed to wear lipstick outside of stage make up or special occasions. I thought it drew too much attention to my appearance, and I didn’t want people judging me. So, if you’re reading this, telling yourself you can’t pull off lipstick, and thinking the way I did my sophomore year of high school, I’m going to give you the same advice I gave my sixteen year old self and never looked back on.
One morning, wake up early and get ready like you normally do. Just before you leave to do whatever you have that day, pick and apply your favorite lip color. When it looks perfect and you feel gorgeous (because you will look gorgeous), walk out the door with so much confidence that you’re daring everyone around you not to notice. People will look, and you’ll feel fierce, because who wouldn’t stare if Wonder Woman walked into the room?
