Restaurant Review: Chaophraya

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Strath chapter.

I recently visited Chaophraya on Buchanan Street to celebrate my boyfriend’s 21st birthday! The food, atmosphere and service was fantastic and I would highly recommend dining at Chaophraya if you have a special occasion to celebrate!

The restaurant is on Buchanan Street, which is an ideal location as it is in the heart of the city centre, with both Central and Queen Street Station only a few minutes walk away. The building is really lovely from outside and has been decorated with a Thai theme.

To start, we ordered the Maeklong Platter, which was a selection of chicken satay, pork dumplings, chicken spring rolls, sweetcorn cakes and Thai vegetable tacos. We also ordered the Spare Ribs, the grilled pork ribs were marinated with fresh Thai herbs and homemade barbecue sauce, served with grilled pineapple. Delicious!

Then for my main I ordered the classic Chicken Pad Thai! This is the national dish of Thailand, it consists of stir-fried noodles in tamarind sauce with chicken, spring onions, carrots, egg, sweet turnip and bean sprouts.

I'm Marjorie, studying towards a BA Hons Degree in International Business. I have always lived in Glasgow and love what it has to offer in terms of shopping, restaurants and nightlife! In September 2016, I embarked on my international exchange to Milan, Italy for 4 months which I absolutely loved!! Studying abroad allowed me to meet some lovely new friends, taste delicious food and visit beautiful lakes and cities nearby. I love going out with friends, getting dressed up, trying new things and meeting new people!
