If you are not a sophomore you have reason to be jealous. This past Thursday the sophomore student government committee held their spring semester event- Dining at Donahue. Dining at Donahue served as a chance for students of the sophomore class to get dressed up, enjoy a catered meal, as well as hear from guest speaker and alum Kate Morneault. Plus, how often do we, as Stonehill students get to visit Donahue? Many students at the event confessed the last time they were at Donahue was prior to his or her very first tour of Stonehill’s campus. Imagine that!

So, why should you be jealous? Well for one, check out the awesome entree and dessert provided by Sodexo;

 Entree: Butternut squash ravioli in sage brown butter, sliced grilled chicken, roasted fall vegetables

Dessert: Six-layer chocolate torte

Overall, the real star of this event was guest speaker, and alum, Kate Morneault. Kate, a 2016 graduate, from Fort Kent, Maine provided an informative, fun, and insightful speech for attendees. Kate graduated Stonehill with a major in accounting and minor in environmental studies and now works for EY as a Tax Intern. Kate encouraged students at the event to take opportunities, find new paths, and adventure through the different experiences life may afford you. Kate urged each of the students to be chameleons- take new opportunities, be versatile, and be bold, take on the color each opportunity may bring and embrace it. Although Kate was an accounting and environmental studies major, minor she made her speech applicable to all students. Kate was able to shed light on transitions post college and some of her own anxiety through those experiences. She was able to give each student the chance to reflect on her experience, but also to let each of them know that everything will work out for the best. Kate created a comfortable normalcy to some of the many changes the attendees are about to face as they only have two more years on Stonehill’s campus until they enter the real world. On Thursday, Kate spoke to the sophomore class, but her three main points spoke to Stonehill’s student body as a whole:

  1. “Life is about good people and great adventures”, keep the good people close to you and don’t be afraid to take adventures.
  2. Take advantage of mentors and take advantage of any opportunities that come your way – who knows where they could take you!
  3. The transitions in life are not always easy- no matter what they are. You may not know why you are going through x,y, and z now but there will be a takeaway at some point- even if you don’t think so.
