Black Friday Survival Guide!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stonehill chapter.

Well it’s almost that time of year! Oh you thought I meant Thanksgiving? No, no, no, I’m talking about the Super Bowl for shopaholics everywhere, otherwise known as Black Friday! You’ve all heard the rumors or may even have experienced the hectic environment that ensues when you combine the Thanksgiving dinner hangover with outrageous shopping deals. Black Friday is more than just battling soccer moms for the last size 8 BCBG high-heeled boots. If you plan accordingly, you cannot only get ahead on your Holiday shopping but maybe pick up a little present for yourself! Here are some tips to stay ahead of the game:

Make a List: I might just be saying this because I am huge advocate for making lists (I make to-do lists about making to-do lists), but they can help you plan out who you want to get gifts for, and what stores you want to hit up. Making lists will prevent from wasting your time in stores you don’t need to go to or wondering who you forgot as you peel out of the mall parking exhausted from hours of shopping.

Research: Seriously, do your research! Find out what stores are having the best deals, and see if there are any coupons online or in the newspaper.

Set a Budget: It is easy to get swept up in the deals and swiping your debit card until it is worn and tired. But your bank account will thank you in the morning if you set a tentative and realistic budget.

Wear Comfortable Clothes: Seriously, who are you trying to impress shopping at 4 in the morning? This is not just a Saturday afternoon shopping day with your gal pals. This is a sporting event where the weak links are picked off early, and only the fittest survive. Or should I say the comfiest.

Bring Provisions: Water and a granola bar! That’s all you need for a quick pick me up. You can be ambitious and bring your Thanksgiving leftovers, but it might slow you down when you are trying to weave in out of the aisles.

Avoid the Crowds: You don’t necessarily have to go right when the doors open. In fact, it is almost better to go in between the midnight and 6 am shift. By avoiding the crowds, you can take your time shopping; the deals will still be there! Plus, sometimes the stores will restock during the lull periods!

Most Importantly: TREAT YOURSELF!

Happy Shopping!
