Best of Oscars Fashion!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stonehill chapter.

This year’s Oscars were definitely played safe, on the red carpet that is! Although Billy Crystal’s antics were hilarious, the red carpet was a hit-or-miss situation entirely. Ladies from “The Help” definitely shined last night, while the “Bridesmaids”, for the most part, fell flat. Read on for the top looks of the night!

Rooney Mara

Finally! Something other than black! This dress may look somewhat simple from the front, but when she turns around it is a whole new story. The ladder-back and gorgeous train just excentuated her gorgeous features.

Guliana Rancic

For someone who simply interviews celebrities on the red carpet, she definitely shined brighter than many of the celebrities last night. Her look was best categorized by Her Campus twitter’s (@HerCampus), “Like Black Swan meets Old Hollywood”. The dress and makeup were flawless, and the idea of the hairstyle was in the right place, but the execution was somewhat lacking and fell flat (and not just talking lack of volume).

Melissa McCarthy

For someone that usually sticks to darker, more jewel-toned colors, this was a pleasant surprise! The jeweled neckline and waist appliqué are beautiful. Although this was hit-or-miss for many people on the carpet, I think that this was just different enough from all of her past red carpet dresses to be perfect.

Octavia Spencer

This dress really showed Octavia’s curves in the best way possible! This dress is conservative, without being boring. The sparkle and gathering are perfect, and the train was just long enough to have the romantic effect without being too long.

Jessica Chastain

When this brocade-looking dress hit the red carpet, I was definitely skeptical, but thankfully, through the different interviews and camera angles, the McQueen dress definitely grew on me. Also, 2 million dollars of Harry Winston jewels makes her the biggest diva on the carpet last night. Despite the jewels, the rest of the styling was done to perfection, especially the hair. The color was flawless, and it was down, but not down enough to drag her features down, with the appropriate amount of volume.

Gweneth Paltrow

Oh. My. Gosh. A cape on the red carpet!? Only Gweneth could pull this off! Tom Ford is usually only known for his excellent suits that are favorites of many of Hollywood’s leading men, but now he will definitely become well-known for his womenswear as well!

Sandra Bullock

Considering the Oscars track record this star has had to endure (her then-husband Jessie James’ infidelity was announced the day after Oscars 2010), she has really come out on top. This monochromatic dress that is broken up by gorgeous gold leaf detailing is simplistic, yet stylish.
