Halloween for the Procrastinators

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stetson chapter.

Hey there Her Campus ladies!

As we all know one of the best holidays of the year is today! Now if you have already decided or are still unsure of what you want to be, here are a few tips that can spice up any costume!

Makeup is what gives your Halloween costume a real wow-effect. It is just as essential as the Halloween costume itself, or you can use it as a last minute accent if you are an impulsive person and usually decide everything in the last moment.

The first step of completing your Halloween look is to go to any Halloween store such as Party City, Spirit Halloween, or even the Halloween section in Wal-mart and pick out the makeup you would prefer to use. Now, if you are going for a more scary look this year make sure you pick out the darker colors like black and red.

Make sure to really focus on the eyes and lips if you’re trying to look scary. If you put a lot of the black/dark blue makeup on the top of your eyelid it will appear that your eyes are enlarged (like a zombie). Also, if you want some “blood” on your face, make sure to draw a darker line on the top so it will appear as if it is an open gash and then draw a lighter red coming from the “gash”. This will make you look extremely scary, trust me! However, if you are thinking about being something cute for Halloween you definitely need to have bright fun colors for your makeup and even some gems and glitter!! For these certain costumes it’s all about the eyes. Having fun bright colors as your eyeliner will show off the fun/cute side you’re looking for. Don’t be afraid to use some light blue/greens/purples for an eye shadow. The higher you go for the shadow, the more effect it’ll give you.

If you finish it off with a gem or two on the corner of your eye and put a little bit of glitter on the highest part of your shadow, you’ll show off the wow factor you are looking for! So spice up those costumes ladies, and remember… it is not just the outfit that you need to worry about, it is the whole package!

I am currently a junior at Stetson University who is ready get things going! Growing up in D.C., I developed a keen sense for fashion, a thick skin, and a yearning for success. It was only recently that I took the leap of faith and permanently moved down to Florida, not far from where I attend school, so I could pursue my love for fashion, warm weather, and a fast-paced life. I can remember my first day at Stetson University like it was yesterday with all the chaos of meeting new friends mixed with the anxiety of new classes and nervousness of being alone for the first time, but most of all my biggest concern was the stress of figuring out how I could possibly pop out of my bubble and become what I wanted to be: the confident, successful, and driven college student who would not follow but create the trend! After two years of hard work, through becoming a part of the Greek life scene, joining many different organizations and learning from prior upperclassmen who have become successful, I have created communication and leadership skills that I am forever grateful for. With a recently new found passion for the journalistic side of life, I cannot wait to be apart of something bigger than I have ever been before so I can continue learning and gaining memorable experiences that will help me in my goal to make my lifelong dreams and aspirations come to life!
