What to Learn Over Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Vincent chapter.

You sure do realize a lot over break, here’s what I learned!

1. I missed having a roommate a lot more than I thought I would. I have four brothers and no sister which means that I have had my own room for the past decade, at least. I technically had a roommate over break, but it was our new puppy, Scooby, and he loved to wake me up around 7 am for breakfast. Luckily though, my roommate has been awesome enough not to wake me up too early… well at least so far (Thanks Aub). I have missed having a friend to chat with and complain to about whatever. I also missed our late night laughs and our inside jokes.

2. I’m honestly a lot more organized in my dorm room than my own room. I’ve always wanted to get super organized, but tended to watch the next episode on Netflix instead. Luckily, moving into my dorm meant starting over. I haven’t been perfect, but because I don’t want to scare my roommate, I have tried my best to keep things as tidy as possible. I’m sorry, roomie, I’m a work in process.

3. I’ve taken for granted having friends constantly around me. I have always been a homebody, so having friends knock on my door and drag me out of my room is new for me. But I’ve realized that I love it and can’t wait to get back to spending time with my friends. Though the break has been much needed- I’m so ready to be back with my friends.

4. I love my pod. It is so so so much fun living so close with some really great people. I love my 3D. I also miss our frickin awesome free tv that we got via winning Pod Wars. It has been so fun laughing with friends and watching a new tv show instead of homework.

5. It’s going to be kind of hard to adjust back into the every day college life. Though I’m super excited to get and be back, I really enjoyed seeing family over break and getting some time to just relax. I’m also really going to miss seeing the new puppy every day. Scooby sometimes drives me crazy, but the ball of adorable fur and energy is such a sweetheart and was one of my favorite parts of break. I’ve gotten used to having not as much to do, but now that I am back, I have to get work done.

I am now a couple days back and these five things are quite true. I am happy to have my friends back around me and it feels good to be getting work done. This semester, I hope to get more organized, take advantage of having my friends so close, and develop a beneficial new schedule for my day to day.

St Vincent '18

Hello there! I am the Campus Correspondent of the Her Campus chapter at Saint Vincent College. As a senior psychology major, I've made the most of my time in undergrad and am excited for all the doors I have opening ahead of me. I can definitely thank Her Campus for giving me invaluable skills. As a future psychologist, I hope that my articles (and the chapter's) are able to make you feel empowered, motivate you to start a conversation, and be kind. As a hero of mine has said, "If you do not take control over your time and your life, other people will gobble it up. If you don't prioritize yourself, you constantly start falling lower and lower on your list."- Michelle Obama. Be the change you want to see in the world, and smile. Always smile!
