What to do During Study Breaks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

It’s that time of year where the end is in sight. However, there are still so many tests and essays to be done. If you’re like me, this is time where I start to slack. To combat my slacking tendencies, I like to take study breaks to rejuvenate myself. With that being said, I’m going to share what I do during my study breaks to help you stay focused during this spring semester.

Take a 10-15 minute walk outside

  • Get a breath of fresh air in the beautiful spring weather and a bit of exercise to relax before hitting the books again.

Watch a YouTube video

  • I love watching Youtube videos and they usually are the perfect length for a 10-20 minute break.

Go on Social Media

  • I only scroll through my feed during my study breaks or else it can be a major distraction.

*Tip: Put your phone on Do Not Disturb mode so that text messages, alerts, etc. won’t distract you when studying.

Talk With Friends

  • When studying with friends, take breaks together to have a conversation (don’t do it while you’re study or you won’t get anything done!)

Take a nap

  • Taking a short power nap between study sessions can improve memory and creativity.

Eat a snack/drink more water

  • Eating and drinking water significantly helps me to stay more focused and energized.

*Snack Ideas: I typically go for apples with peanut butter, blueberries, carrots, and granola bars/trail mix.
