Taylor’s Tunes: Local Music Events Coming Up This Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Hey Her Campus St. Olaf readers!

I hope everyone’s weekend was rejuvenating. I had the chance to catch some campus bands such as Moon like Mars and the Ted Pretzel Experience feat. Clayton at Friday’s Heart to Heart event for the foster children of Minnesota. All in all, it was a great time and a reminder that this upcoming week is full of fun musical events that you should all check out.

On Wednesday, there will be an Open Mic Night held in the Lair. This is a great chance to check out the many individual and group acts that St. Olaf has to offer. And of course, this isn’t just limited to musical performances. Head over at 9 p.m. for a relaxed atmosphere and guaranteed entertainment.

Friday boasts two local off-campus events that you should definitely attend. The first is a concert at Carleton’s Farm House featuring Carleton all-girl punk band Prom Queef (that isn’t a typo) as well as treebeard (also from Carleton), Minneapolis’s Weakwick and Omaha’s The Yuppies. Prom Queef just dropped the sure to be hit single “Shut Up Dude” which you can listen to here http://promqueef.bandcamp.com/ The Facebook event says this is a show you don’t want to miss so if you have the means, head over to Carleton at 10 p.m.

The Ted Pretzel Experience feat. Clayton will also be playing a show on Friday night at the Cow around 11:30 p.m.. TPEftC is a great St. Olaf band with a large catalogue of covers ranging from Prince to Ke$ha to Shaggy. Also, every member is serious eye candy. So again, if you have the means, get to the Cow to witness a really fun band play a really fun set.

Don’t worry dear readers; Saturday night also holds an event that is sure to be memorable. Duluth’s own DJ collective the Crunchy Bunch will be playing a Pause show just for you. If you were lucky enough to attend the show they DJ’d at the Burrow last year, you know just how good this group is. (and if you weren’t lucky, http://soundcloud.com/thecrunchybunch) Trust me, you do not want to miss out on this Pause dance (and missing out includes getting too drunk to even remember it)!! The Crunchy Bunch has leveled up to Pause status. Be there at 10.

If you feel this won’t be enough to satisfy your weekend fun level, get tickets to the play Under Milk Wood in Kelsey Theater for Sunday. It won’t have any music but it will be a nice way to wind down.

In other news, My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless turned twenty on Friday. If you don’t know who My Bloody Valentine is, this is a good place to start! Have a good week everyone!
