Ole Fit Athlete of the Week: Megan Bauer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Get to know this week’s athlete of the week: senior volleyball player Megan Bauer!

Hometown: Blaine, Minnesota

Position: DS/Right-Side Hitter

Favorite music to work out to: I like to work out to upbeat, hip-hop music because it keeps the pace of my workout up. My playlist has a lot of Drake and Wale.

Favorite sports memory: My favorite sports memory is playing at the Olympic facility in Barcelona this past summer. We competed against some amazing players and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, having the opportunity to play the game I love internationally.

Favorite part of playing on a college sports team: My favorite part of playing on a college sports team is the relationships I’ve made with my teammates. They make it enjoyable to go into the gym everyday and they push me to become a better player. Every time I step out onto the court I am playing for the betterment of my team.

Do you have an inspirational athlete?: My inspirational athletes are Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings. They somehow make the game look easy and the fact that they’ve been the reigning Olympic beach volleyball champions since 2004 is pretty cool too.

Any pregame rituals or superstitions?: I listen to a motivational speech by Ray Lewis. He never fails to get me pumped for a game.

Favorite food after a hard practice: Anything with a lot of protein!

Other extracurriculars or activities you’re involved in on campus: St. Olaf Mental Health Awareness Club, on-campus marketing intern and intramural enthusiast ;)

Any sports-related advice?: The best advice I can give is to learn from failure and adversary. Once you overcome challenges, it reminds you why you fell in love with the game and continue to compete. I am thankful for all the challenges I have faced in sports and they have taught me how to be an overall mentally tougher person. Don’t run away from failure, use it as motivation to elevate your game!

Make sure to catch Megan and the rest of the volleyball team at this Friday’s “Dig Pink” match in Skoglund at 7pm!
