Meet Grace Brandt ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

All around campus, people can be heard talking about the sold-out show “In Black.” For the lucky few who have tickets, they can look forward to being entertained by a hilarious group of St. Olaf students, including Grace Brandt ’17, who is the only freshman in the show. It’s rare that first-years are accepted into the group, but Grace’s involvement with St. Olaf’s improv group “Scared Scriptless” and her comedic wit scored her a place in the infamous show, which happens each spring.

When asked what the best part of “In Black” is, the Chicago-native responded, “The best part is definitely the people. They’re all so cool! We’ve had so much fun rehearsing and have all grown really close. It’s also such an insane mix of so many things, it’s just a ton of different genres, and I think that there is a sketch that every single person in the audience will identify with. There’s something in the show for everyone, as cheesy as that sounds!”

Although she’s currently undeclared, Grace is thinking about majoring in sociology & anthropology, with concentrations in race and ethnic studies along with media studies. After graduation, she said her dream job is “anything to do with Saturday Night Live (SNL). Writing, acting, everything…I actually just want to grow up to look like Lorne Michaels (the producer of SNL), let’s be real. Hottie with a body.” Other than loving Lorne,  her favorite SNL comedians are Kirsten Wiig, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler. Grace described them as “the dream trifecta” and continued to say, “I think everyone wants to be their best friend.”

Grace can be found exploring the natural lands, working the front desk at Tostrud, and making people laugh all over campus.
