Welcome back to the NoCo!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

Welcome back to the NoCo, Saints! Hope everyone is bronzed, relaxed and ready for another unreal year at SLU, and if you’re a freshman, an amazing FIRST year! As the returners know, coming back to school is one of the most exciting times, with so much going on. Here’s a few little things to look forward to on your return/ first time coming to SLU

1. Seeing your friends/meeting new friends- Nothing beats coming back to school and seeing your friends. What actually was 3 months felt like 3 years and you can’t wait to get your girls and guys reunited! As for meeting new friends, that’s basically what college is all about, and people tend to have more of an interest in branching out and finding new people during the beginning of the year.

2. Getting to decorate your dorm room- Whether you’re using all the same bedding and decorations as last year, or you’ve completely changed your room décor, your room this year will look completely different than your last room. Get creative! Look up some dorm room DIY crafts for some cheap decorations! Also, lets be honest, once your room is all set up that’s the cleanest it will be all year :/

3.The Tick Tock!!!-  If you say you didn’t miss the ticker over the summer, I don’t believe you. 3 months without a thick sharpie mark on your hand for the next week is 3 months too long. After all, who doesn’t love dripping sweat in a jam packed room with all of your closest friends!

4. Dana Brunch-  I can almost guarantee no one at home prepared a Sunday brunch for you to cure the dreaded Sunday hangover. It doesn’t get much better than rolling into Dana in your sweats and make up from last night eating anything in your sight.

5. The infamous Raft day..-  In my opinion, one of the most fun days of the year; maybe because it’s one of my only memories at SLU where you can wear a bathing suit without getting frostbite…but still! Who doesn’t love floating in the Grass River with all your friends. Whether you’re swinging off the rope swing, jumping and trying to clear the dirt cliff, floating in the river on an air mattress or chilling on land with swimmies on and a drink in your hand and some feel good music blasting- someone tell me what gets better than that?!

6.Lampson Falls picnics- Again, since the first few weeks are some of the only warm days during our year at SLU, we have to take advantage of what the NoCo has to offer, other than a few feet of snow. Lampson falls is just a half hour from campus and a BEAUTIFUL spot to go with some friends, dip your toes in the water, and enjoy some sandwiches and Pub cookies ;)

7. Pub Cookies- Enough said.

8. Canton, NY-  Yes, were in the middle of nowhere, and yes it’s still the best place to go to school. It’s easy to make the best of it. The Bagelry and partridge in Canton, 1844 House, Jakes on the water, Maxfields, Thai Cuisine in Potsdam, and many more eateries to retreat to when you get a little sick of the Pub or Dana. There’s a movie theatre right in town which is a good escape from campus life, a nail salon in Potsdam so you can treat yoself, and some nice trails around the town for a nice scenic run.

9. Everything about SLU- You can’t walk around campus and not have a smile on your face! There’s too much to love about this place; the people, the faculty, the close knit community, the foliage in the fall, the crystal-like snow in the winter. Its pretty hard not to be happy to be back- Welcome home Saints!
