Ski Areas for SLU Students to Explore this Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

Being in the rural area of upstate New York might not give the impression of ski country, but if you look around our community is filled with people who share a passion for skiing. Some of the best mountains on the east coast are in our reach, with terrain for any level of skier. Pick a weekend this winter, grab some skis, and go adventure somewhere you’ve never been before!

Whiteface

With the greatest vertical drop on the east coast, Whiteface is a great place to go and challenge yourself. It’s an hour and forty-five minutes away from campus, but the drive through the Adirondacks is well worth it. Normal ticket prices start at $74 but if you buy online you could receive up to 50% off. It’s too late in the season now, but watch out next fall for the OC selling passes for a great deal!

Gore

One of the larger mountains around campus, Gore is about a 2 hour 20 minute drive. Gore has eclectic terrain for any skiers. Tickets start at $60. The Whiteface pass also covers Gore, so if you decide to buy a pass from the OC, go explore Gore as well!

Titus

Known for the event the OC puts on mid-winter, most students will find themselves at Titus at least once during their time at SLU. Tickets start at $40 for students under 21 on weekends and holidays, and $45 for students above 21. On the weekdays tickets range from $30-$36. To get a better deal, don’t forget to check online for discounted prices before you go.

Mt. Pisgah

This mountain is the smallest mountain around. The trails consist of blue squares and green circles, making it a great place to learn. It is also the cheapest option. Tickets begin at $20 for a weekday and $25 on a weekend.

Jay Peak

Jay Peak, in Vermont, is known for its amounts of snow. This is a longer drive for SLU students, but it is well worth it. From school, Jay is about a three hour ride. Ticket start at $42 online. Often times you can find OC vans loading up for a day trip, so watch out for emails!
