This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

A musical here at SLU has been a long time coming, but on November 3rd the PCA department will open the season with a production of Legally Blonde! As a member of the cast, I have gotten to watch some powerhouse women lead our show and wanted to get their thoughts on the shows approaching debut.

Jillian Andrews

Taylor Lincoln

Role(s): Vivienne Kensington

1. Favorite post dance rehearsal snack?

P.C: Orgain- protein shake.

J.A: Toast with Peanut Butter.

T.L: Apple slices with peanut butter!

2. Favorite song in show and why?

P.C: Bend and Snap- iconic for the show, Paulette finds her inner strength and develops confidence.

J.A: I think there are a lot of wonderful songs in this show, but my favorite would have to be “Legally Blonde.”  It’s one of the slower songs in the production and I think it really shows the audience another side of Elle.

T.L: I think Take it Like a Man would be my favorite song. It’s so heart felt and there is so much love in the song. Elle and her love for shopping but also Emmett realizing his love for Elle. It’s a real turning point for their “friendship.”

3. What drew you to audition and take part in Legally Blonde?

P.C: I grew up doing musical theater so when SLU was doing a musical I couldn’t say no!

J.A: I love musicals, so that was the first thing that drew me to audition. Above that, I have always wanted to participate in Legally Blonde. The show is both energetic and fun, and brings a lot of Girl Power to the scene.

T.L: I love musical theatre. I’ve been involved in musicals since I was 10 and have loved every minute of it. I also worked on a project last fall that was focused on the lack of musical theatre at St. Lawrence. I worked with Jen Thomas as well as other members of the PCA department to discuss the possibility of getting a musical to SLU. I felt I had a little part in sparking the flame to get a musical here so I had to audition.

4. What do you hope this show brings to SLU?

P.C: I hope this show brings more awareness to the PCA department and more support to the fine arts here.

J.A: I hope this show will get the student body excited about musical theatre. Ever since I came to SLU I always wished we could do a musical. Musicals are a lot of work- singing, dancing, and acting- However, the end product is always rewarding.

T.L: I hope this show brings more people together with lots of laughter. This show is a huge ball of pink, sparkles and fun, I hope SLU gets a little pep in their step from our goofiness on stage.

5. Favorite aspect of your character?

P.C: Paulette is incredibly quirky but also very loyal to Elle. I hope I can do her justice in that regard :)

J.A: My favorite aspect of Elle would probably her determination to get what she wants, and the bubbly personality she has in the process.

T.L: I love how different her personality is compared to mine. I try to be positive and kind to everyone, where Vivienne strives for success and doesn’t care who’s toes she steps on in the process. I’m so excited to play someone so different from who I am.

6. Favorite message from the show?

P.C: Being yourself never goes out of style!!

J.A: My favorite message from the show would have to be the idea that you can achieve whatever you want when you put your mind to it, even if there are obstacles standing in your way.

T.L: “Being true to yourself never goes out of style”

7. Person you are most excited to see in the audience watching the show?

P.C: My family! I love them so much and can’t wait for them so see how far we have all come in just a few short months!!

J.A: I am most excited to have my mom come see the show. No matter the performance, my mom has always been my favorite person to see in the audience.

T.L: I’m excited to see my parents in the audience. One of my sisters played a sport so my parents always went to her games and my other sister went to college in our hometown so my parents always saw her. I’m excited for them to come and support me in my performances!
