5 Movies You Should Watch (on Netflix!)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. John's chapter.

Whether you’ve already seen these movies and simply need a refresher, or you’ve never even heard of them, the following films should be on your to-watch list. These five movies include just the right amount of emotion, action, and humor to fulfill whatever you’re craving. Luckily, they are all currently available to watch on Netflix.

1.Stardust

A young man pines after the vainest and most popular girl in the village. In an effort to win her affection, he promises her he will bring back a fallen star and ends up with an adventure he never could have predicted in a magical world he didn’t even know existed. Stars Charlie Cox, from the recently released “The Theory of Everything” as well as Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes and Robert DeNiro.

2.Charlie Bartlett

A young troubled teenager, affected by the dysfunction of his family, is forced to change schools and accidentally becomes one of the most popular people there by becoming the resident psychiatrist using the skills he observed attending his own therapy sessions. Prepare to have feelings. Stars Anton Yelchin, Kat Dennings, and Robert Downey Jr.

3.Syrup

Desperate to be a success, a young man strains himself to figure out a way to create the “next big product” and ends up teaming up with a mysterious bombshell on several marketing campaigns where they can’t seem to catch a break. Though ill received by critics, I think this movie carries some interesting messages, especially to we who will be trying to find our place in business in the near future. Stars Shiloh Fernandez (who lost the role of Edward in Twilight to RPatz, ouch) and Amber Heard.

4.A Knight’s Tale

To be honest if you haven’t already seen this movie, I’m judging you. When his master is accidentally killed during a jousting match, peasant William takes it upon himself to finish the tournament for him so that they may collect the winnings. Unable to stop himself, he keeps up the charade with the help of his friends, including the likes of Geoffrey Chaucer, so that the group can keep from starving. When William falls for a noble lady, he gets himself into a bit of trouble and must keep from being discovered for the fraud he is. Lots of action and humor, starring a young Heath Ledger, so really there’s no reason not to watch it.

5.Stuck in Love

This film follows a dysfunctional family of writers, each with their own personal problems, which can mostly be traced back to the parents’ divorce. The father, who was an established author, hasn’t been able to write anything since the incident and spends his time spying on his ex and fighting his way into his kids’ lives, while the daughter finds success in publishing her first novel and balancing college. Enchanted by a troubled girl in his class, the son gathers his thoughts in a journal while trying to find a way to connect with her. You should probably break out the ice cream and tissues for this one. Stars Lily Collins and Nat Wolff as the children.

Lindsay Miller is a senior at Penn State, majoring in Media Studies. She enjoys spending her time sleeping, eating, and watching Netflix, usually with her kitten, Kiwi, lying in the most inconvenient spot possible.  She also enjoys reading and writing until she gets frustrated and erases everything. If you want to get in her good graces, bring her a milkshake.
