Three Tools to Relax Your Mind During Deadline Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Andrews chapter.

1. Download the app Headspace

Headspace launched in 2010 with the mission to improve the health and happiness of the world. Now with millions of users across 190 countries, people are learning the essentials of meditation and mindfulness through mini-podcasts explaining how to relax your mind. These mini podcasts include discussions of stress, sleep, anxiety, depression, and more allowing users to customize their experience to fit their needs. Headspace is an easy way to check in with yourself daily to gain a better sense of mental wellbeing.

2. Listen to a Relaxing Playlist

Spotify creates playlists based on moods and genres allowing listeners to pick and choose from a wide variety of relaxing playlists to calm the mind or create an environment of focus during deadline or exam season. From white noise to rain sounds to chilled piano pieces, listeners can easily find music to destress with.

3. Go for a Walk or Run

Sometimes the best way to decompress is to just sweat it out. As horrible as a walk or run might sound amid stressful work and deadlines, not to mention braving the cold Scottish weather, getting some fresh air allows you to take a momentary break and get the blood and oxygen flowing through your body again so you’ll be more productive and sharp when you return to work.
