Robert Crawford, Professor of English

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Andrews chapter.

Professor Robert Crawford is a world-renowned poet and author, and English students have the pleasure and privilege of being taught by him. I first met Professor Crawford when he was my first year English tutor. I came to realize how lucky I was about halfway through my first tutorial.

One of the highlights of the first year English module is when Professor Crawford gives the lecture on modern Scottish Poetry. He speaks with real knowledge on the subject, personally knows most of the poets in question, and at the end of the lecture reads a few of his own poems. I recommend going even if you are a 4th year Maths student, it’s that good!

Professor Crawford teaches many modules in the School of English and is often seen out and about on the streets of St Andrews. He has written many books of poetry, and his most recent publication, The Beginning and the End of the World: St. Andrews, Scandal, and the Birth of Photography, is interesting to anyone who likes photography, or St Andrews for that matter.

You can purchase most of Professor Crawford’s books at the bookstores around town and also on Amazon.
