Features that Netflix should have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Andrews chapter.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a Netflix junkie – having easy access to my favourite movies and shows in HD with subtitles is a must for me, and Netflix is perfect for binge-marathons, which is my favorite thing to do on slow weekends.

But as much as I love Netflix, there are some ways the Netflix experience could be improved:

1. Making your own playlists

Keeping track of the movies and shows I want to watch by adding them to My List is great, but as someone who is very fond of lists, I would love to be able to make different playlists on Netflix so I can organize my to-watch items any way I want, or even build a library of movies and shows that I re-watch often.

2. Syncing accounts so that users can watch Netflix together at the same time

I discovered Rabb.it earlier this year, which is a website that lets you watch videos with your friends no matter where you are, without having to share your screens through Skype (you just plug in a link and play the video!) But if Netflix had this option too, it would make movie nights so much more convenient (especially when they’re halfway across the world. LONG-DISTANCE FRIENDSHIPS ARE HARD, YO.)

3. A category for Leaving Soon items

New on Netflix tells you what new shows/movies will be added to your country’s selection within the month, and which shows/movies you will be saying goodbye to (so don’t put off that bingewatch!), but wouldn’t it be great if Netflix could provide this themselves? That would also help boost hits on Leaving Soon items, and help Netflix figure out which movies/shows they should keep. It would be a win-win.

4. Make Secret Netflix Categories accessible to everyone

I added an Enhancer for Netflix extension to Chrome, which gives me access to Netflix’s Secret Categories, but shouldn’t these be public for all users? It would make the endless quest of searching for something to watch so much easier if you’re given specific and unique categories to pick from (like Disney Musicals, or Vampire Horror Movies, instead of only the usual Action/Drama/Comedy categories).
